CHRONICLES OF A HOLY MAN -- FR. ALBERTO HURTADO


Father Alberto Hurtado was a Jesuit priest born in Viña del mar, Chile on January 22, 1901. He was beatified in 1994. His ministry was directed to the youth in St. Ignatius school and the Catholic University of Chile. He died on August 18th, 1952.

Maria Alicia Cabezas worked at Christ's Home, the sanctuary founded by Father Alberto. In July, 1990 she miraculously survived three serious hemorrahages through the intercession of Father Alberto Hurtado. This first miracle attributed to him was approved by the Holy See.

Fr. Hurtado is one of five blesseds to be cannonized this coming Sunday, October 23. The other future saints are: Jozef Bilczewski, archbishop of Lviv of the Latins (1860 - 1923); Gaetano Catanoso, priest, founder of the Congregation of the Veronica Sisters of the Holy Countenance (1879 - 1963); Zygmunt Gorazdowski, priest, founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of St Joseph (1845 - 1920); and Felice da Nicosia, of the Friars Minor Capuchin (1715 - 1787).
