Italian Mother to be beatified-- November 6

In a November 6 ceremony in Vicenza, Italy, an Italian mother, Eurosia Fabris, will be beatified.

Eurosia Fabris was born in Vincenza, in northern Italy, in 1866, into a poor family. After only two years of education she joined her mother in working as a seamstress. At the age of 15, she began caring for two girls in the neighborhood whose mother had died, and a few years later she married and adopted the children. She and her husband subsequently had 9 children of their own, including 3 who were to become priests.

Her favorite devotions were to the Holy Spirit, the infant Jesus, the Cross of Christ, the Eucharist, the Virgin Mary, and the souls in Purgatory. She was an apostle of good will in her family, among her friends, and in her parish, where she taught catechism to the children and sewing to girls who came to her home.

"Mamma Rosa," as she was known, was known for her sacrifice and devotion to her family, and her courage in the face of a disease that caused her husband's death in 1930. After her own death in 1932, Pope Pius XII said that she was "an example for today's families."

  1. Beautiful post, thank you!

I am also a ("traditional") Catholic wife and mother of 4, now all teenagers...

I understand one of her priest-sons was her biographer. Is there a full-length biography in English, do you know?

    Thanks again!

  2. You're welcome and thanks for your comment.

This is the first I have heard of this. I did some checking, but could not find anything. Let me know if you hear more about this. I would be interested in reading it.

    God bless,
    Jean
