New Padre Pio Film


An animated feature movie about St. Padre Pio (1887-1968) will be in Italy's movie theaters May 5th. It was produced by Mondo TV, the second-biggest animation studio in Europe.

On May 2nd, the movie will be shown at the Vatican, Pope Benedict may attend.

The DVD will be sent to the 15,000 Italian parishes, complete with a coloring book and games. Part of the revenues will be used to build a cathedral in St. Padre Pio's honor.

The Capuchin monk was canonized on June 16th, 2002 by Pope John Paul II. The pilgrimage town of San Giovanni Rotondo (which has a partially hideous modern church) is visited by about 8 million people a year.Mondo TV is planning further animated movies - in October 2006 a movie about Bl. Mother Teresa will be released.

A movie about John Paul II is scheduled to be completed by April 2nd, 2007.
