May. 03 (CWNews.com) - At the conclusion of his regular weekly public audience on May 3, Pope Benedict XVI asked for prayers for the success of his apostolic voyage to Poland later this month.

Following his usual custom, after delivering his prepared talk at the Wednesday audience, the Pope spent some time greeting different groups of people in the audience. He gave special attention to a large delegation of pilgrims form Poland.

For Polish Catholics, the Holy Father noted, May 3 was "a particularly solemn day," dedicated to the Mother of God, Queen of Poland. Pope Benedict reminded his audience that 350 years ago, King Jan Kazimierz gave that title to the Virgin Mary. May 3 also marks the anniversary of the ratification of the Polish constitution of 1791.

Sending his greetings to the Polish bishops, who were gathered for a meeting at Jasna Gora, the Pope said that he was counting on the people of Poland to pray for a successful pilgrimage. The Pontiff is due to travel to Poland on May 25, for a trip on which he will pay homage to his predecessor, visiting several sites connected with the early life and episcopal ministry of Pope John Paul II.
