PRAYERS FOR PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Father, we come to You, our hearts heavy and burdened over the terrible conflict between our brothers in the Middle East. We ask for a swift end to the crisis there and for the miraculous gift of peace. As Your Holy Vicar on earth has stated "the Lebanese have the right to see the integrity and sovereignty of their country respected, the Israelis the right to live in peace in their State, and the Palestinians have the right to have their own free and sovereign homeland." We ask that this situation be resolved, and that the people of these countries live in peace and harmony, in accordance with Your holy will. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus.

Jesus, we trust in You.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.

Mary, Queen of peace, pray for us!

St. Joseph, universal patron of the Church, watch over the entire ecclesial community and obtain for the whole of humanity, especially for the peoples menaced in this time of war, the precious gift of harmony and peace.

Amen.

Prayer for Peace by Pope John Paul II

Lord Jesus Christ, who are called the Prince of Peace, who are yourself our peace and reconciliation, who so often said, "Peace to you," grant us peace. Make all men and women witnesses of truth, justice, and brotherly love. Banish from their hearts whatever might endanger peace. Enlighten our rulers that they may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace. May all peoples on the earth become as brothers and sisters. May longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always over us all.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I
may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
