Holy Father: Democracy Succeeds Only When Based on Truth

VATICAN CITY, SEP 8, 2006 (VIS) - This morning at Castelgandolfo, the Pope received prelates from the Canadian (Ontario) Conference of Catholic Bishops who have just completed their "ad limina" visit.

Addressing them in English, the Pope indicated that "the fundamental task of the evangelization of culture is the challenge to make God visible in the human face of Jesus. In helping individuals to recognize and experience the love of Christ, you will awaken in them the desire to dwell in the house of the Lord, embracing the life of the Church. This is our mission."

"The split between the Gospel and culture, with the exclusion of God from the public sphere" is one of the "impediments to the spread of Christ's Kingdom" said the Holy Father. "Canada has a well-earned reputation for a generous and practical commitment to justice and peace, and there is an enticing sense of vibrancy and opportunity in your multicultural cities. At the same time, however, certain values ... have evolved in the most disturbing of ways. In the name of 'tolerance' your country has had to endure the folly of the redefinition of spouse, and in the name of 'freedom of choice' it is confronted with the daily destruction of unborn children. When the Creator's divine plan is ignored the truth of human nature is lost."

"Democracy succeeds," the Holy Father insisted, "only to the extent that it is based on truth and a correct understanding of the human person. Catholic involvement in political life cannot compromise on this principle. ... In your discussions with politicians and civic leaders I encourage you to demonstrate that our Christian faith, far from being an impediment to dialogue, is a bridge, precisely because it brings together reason and culture."

My Opinion

I love this quote: "In the name of 'tolerance' your country has had to endure the folly of the redefinition of spouse, and in the name of 'freedom of choice' it is confronted with the daily destruction of unborn children. When the Creator's divine plan is ignored the truth of human nature is lost."

The truth is so simple and makes so much sense. Why do people and entire countries continue to ignore it, deny it, and pretend it doesn't exist? It's like the unfaithful spouse who gets caught in the act of adultery by their partner, but continues to deny that anything is going on. The devil is clever and is having a heyday, that's for sure, but just step outside the picture for a minute and take a look at what's really happening in our culture today. The secular world has literally turned into our worst nightmare -- it is like a whore house filled with the weirdest, freakiest characters you would ever want to meet, including the powerful, mentally distorted liberal press, sex- crazed advertisers, psychologically distressed, emotionally unstable and sexually perverted Hollywood entertainers, the death-minded, power hungry politicians, the money hungry sex profiteers -- Planned Parenthood, Playboy, and the abortionists - all mixed in together who lure the innocents into their immoral and unnatural value systems through their lies, deception and vicious attacks on organized religion and those who adhere to Christian family values. The tragedy is that this conglomeration of evil has caused the innocent to suffer, lives to be torn apart, our society to be plagued by a plethora of infectious diseases, marriages to be destroyed, and millions of babies to be slaughtered in their mother's womb.

And they demand tolerance for their sinful, self-centered, wicked lifestyles in exchange for all of this?

Tolerating it is the same as approving it, which I will never do. "Tolerating evil leads only to more evil. And when good people stand by and do nothing while wickedness reigns, their communities will be consumed."(Bob Riley)

I will not be enslaved by this culture of darkness which promotes and glamorizes evil. I will live in the light of His love and rejoice in the culture of life. I will cling to the Truth and the Truth will set me free.
