Christmas Meme

Esther tagged me for this fun Christmas Meme.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? I prefer gift bags because they are so versatile and reusable.

2. Real tree or artificial? I love real trees, but I'm allergic to them, so we have a fiber optic tree, which is really beautiful.

3. When do you put up the tree? It varies every year, but usually some time in December during the Advent season.

4. When do you take the tree down? Usually right after Epiphany

5. Do you like eggnog? I like most eggnog -- homemade is the best.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? It's a tie between a typewriter and a small baking oven.

7. Do you have a Nativity scene? Yes, one outdoors and two indoors. Of the two that are indoors, one is made of olive wood and came to us from Bethlehem (a present from a friend who lived there); the other has more figures and was created for us by another talented friend. Both are precious to us.

8. Hardest person to buy for? I usually don't buy many gifts, but bake them. If someone is difficult to buy for, I usually end up giving them a gift card.

9. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A pair of jeans when I was expecting a diamond - from a former beau.

My dh gave me a diamond for Christmas 16 years ago, which more than made up for it.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Both. I send email cards to those who have email and read it regularly. To those who don't and to family and friends living apart from me I send snail mail cards. I love to send out Christmas Cards to family and friends some of whom I only hear from at Christmas time.

11. Favorite Christmas Movie? It's a Wonderful Life is my favorite. I also like Miracle on 34th Street and Come To the Stable.

12. When do you start shopping for Christmas? I do very little shopping, but when I do shop, it's in early December.

13. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? I avoid too much jewelry, so when I receive jewelry, I often give it to others who really like that sort of thing, unless it's something that is sentimental - given to me by dear husband or a family member.

14. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? anything with cherries, dark chocolate, pecans

15. Clear lights or colored on the tree? colored

16. Favorite Christmas song? O Holy Night

17. Travel at Christmas or stay home? We'll be staying home this year.

18. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers? Yes, if I sing the prelude to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

19. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel dressed in white with golden hair

20. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas Eve after the Midnight Mass

21. Most annoying thing about this time of year? The commercialism and people wishing Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. When people say "Happy Holidays" I always respond "Merry Christmas"

22. Best thing about this time of year? The kindness and generosity that people show towards one another and the cheeriness that abounds. This is such a joyful time of year.

I tag anyone who is reading this and would like to do it.

Comments

  1. This year I've started returning "Happy Holiday" cards with a note asking "What Holiday". If I get an answer back that "we're just being politically correct", I tell them to keep the card and not send any againg. That I am very offended at their un-sincerity.

  2. Jean, I am always happily surprised how similar we are.
    God bless,

  3. We went to a movie tonight and there was not a single Christmas decoration in the entire building! It hurts that Christ is being shut out of so many places....are we suppose to be loving towards them when asking why no decorations or do we say we will not frequent their establishment anymore?
