Canadian Catholics plead for papal visit
Quebec, Dec. 31, 2007 (CWNews.com) - More than 10,000 Canadians have signed a petition to the Holy See, asking Pope Benedict XVI to attend the 49th International Eucharistic Congress in Quebec next year.
The Eucharistic Congress will take place in Quebec City next June.
Cardinal Marc Ouellet, the host of the gathering and a close associate of Pope Benedict XVI, had lobbied strenuously for a papal visit, and organizers of the event had high hopes that the Pontiff would make the trip. However, the Vatican has not announced any plans for a papal visit to Canada.
