Bishop's Brave Ad for the Presidential Election

Here's an ad from a very courageous Bishop, his excellency, Rene Gracida.

The text of the ad is as follows:

This is Bishop Rene H. Gracida, reminding all Catholics that they must vote in this election with an informed conscience. A Catholic cannot be said to have voted in this election with a good conscience if they have voted for a pro-abortion candidate. Barack Hussein Obama is a pro-abortion candidate.

  1. We have too many "Catholics" in name only. They are "Catholic" for 1 hour per week only, assuming they attend mass...

  2. My "informed conscience" requres me not to vote for a candidate or party that supports "unjust" wars,
mistreatment of prisoners "of war", the death penalty, and refuses to provide financial and other social and health services needed required by the babies of mothers who choose not to have an abortion. andalso refuses to recognize the need for universal health care in thes Country. (I hope that this is not considered an "incharitable comment".

  3. With all due respect, jdp, the issues you cited are matters of prudential judgment around which Catholics faithful to the Magisterium may disagree. That is fine. And we all can work to enjoin our leaders on these matters.
However, with 1 Million innocent children murdered in the womb in the USA each and every year - every other issue pales in comparison. No war in human history has produced such casualties.
We can work (no matter one's party affiliation or identification) toward a more just society with regard to health care and the other issues you cited.
Yet there is a clear distinction between that and the slaughter of 1 Million babies per year.

  4. I haven't voted yet, so there is time to convince me that a Republican president will do anything more than a Democratic president to reduce abortions. Certainly Bush failed in that regard but he did succeed in getting us into a war that resulted in several hundred thousand children, mothers and fathers being killed. Believe me. I am anti-abortion. I merely fail to see that McKain will do any more than Obama to de-legalize abortion. But I am certain that Obama will do more to support social and health programs and services and will also be less inclined to get us into unjust wars.
