The Evils of Planned Parenthood; What You Can Do to Stop Them

This past weekend I had the wonderful opportunity of attending the Right to Life of Kansas conference and heard the well-known and highly esteemed executive director of STOPP International and the Vice President of American Life League, Jim Sedlak, deliver the key note address at the banquet. I would like to share some of his ideas from that talk, which I have put into my own words.

Babies being Murdered in Mass Numbers

Every two minutes a baby dies somewhere in a Planned Parenthood abortion facility in the US. In 2006, there were 289,750 abortions at Planned Parenthood – in other words – a little over a quarter of a millions babies died. 5,000 babies per week die at Planned Parenthood.

To put this number into perspective, let’s look at the horrific tragedy that took place in the US on September 11, 2001. On that day, 3000 innocent human lives were taken by terrorists, and our country rightfully mourned their deaths. Everyday in the US, 5,000 babies’ lives are taken by Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood as a Big Business

Planned Parenthood receives $336M in taxpayer money. Their annual income in the U.S. is one billion dollars – a little less than one third of that comes from donations ($280M of their monies) and $356M comes from the fees they charge their customers at their clinics ($425 is the average cost of a first trimester abortion.). Their biggest money-producing product is birth control products. (Birth control refers to products which prevent birth, not contraceptives, which are products that prevent conception).

The Lies

Planned Parenthood is a Big Business which specializes in sales – the selling of abortions and abortifacients to kill babies in the womb. However, they have tried to pretend that they are an upstanding, ethical organization and have even been referred to by a popular secular news magazine as “the most trusted health organization” in the US.

Another lie that has Planned Parenthood has perpetuated is that they are a non-profit organization. However, since 1987, there has not been one year where they didn’t make at least $7M in profit. Planned Parenthood does not refer to this as profit, but as monies received over expenditures, which is a way of masking the truth.

Last year, taxpayers gave Planned Parenthood $336M and they made $114M in profit. Currently, they have over $1.2B in investments and liquid assets.

At the present time, there are 885 Planned Parenthood clinics in the US and Planned Parenthood is seeking to increase these clinics to produce mega – clinics, which are buildings that are at least 2,000 square feet. These larger buildings will offer space for laboratory work and room for laboratory services for local physicians.

Companies which manufacture birth control products also want to perform clinical trials for new birth control products on Planned Parenthood’s customers.

Who are Planned Parenthood’s customers?

27% are under the age of 20.
70% are under the age of 25.

Their customers consist primarily of high school and college students.

The Prevention First Act

Planned Parenthood has been pushing the Prevention First Act, which is designed to provide mega-bucks or virtually unlimited funding for sex, birth control, and abortion. The document states that Planned Parenthood will receive “as much money as needed”. Where will the money come from? Why, from taxpayers of course!

Planned Parenthood as a Religion

Planned Parenthood is in the business of spreading a religion. In other words, they have a set of principals which they are trying to impose on society.

The Humanist Manifesto is the title of three manifestos which prescribe to a Humanist worldview. They are the original Humanist Manifesto (1933, often referred to as Humanist Manifesto I), the Humanist Manifesto II (1973), and Humanism and Its Aspirations (2003, a.k.a. Humanist Manifesto III). The Manifesto originally arose from religious Humanism, though secular Humanists also signed. Humanist Manifesto 2000: A Call for New Planetary Humanism is a book by Paul Kurtz published in 2000. In it, Kurtz argues for many of the points already mentioned in Humanist Manifesto II, which he had co-authored in 1973.

Humanism espouses the following beliefs (among others): (1) there is no heaven or hell, and (2) there is no objective right or wrong. Values clarification and critical thinking are what is important in determining one’s standards of behavior.

Here is an excerpt from Humanist Manifesto II: “In the area of sexuality, we believe that intolerant attitudes, often cultivated by orthodox religions and puritanical cultures, unduly repress sexual conduct. The right to birth control, abortion, and divorce should be recognized. While we do not approve of exploitive, denigrating forms of sexual expression, neither do we wish to prohibit, by law or social sanction, sexual behavior between consenting adults. The many varieties of sexual exploration should not in themselves be considered ‘evil’. Without countenancing mindless permissiveness or unbridled promiscuity, a civilized society should be a tolerant one. Short of harming others or compelling them to do likewise, individuals should be permitted to express their sexual proclivities and pursue their lifestyles as they desire. We wish to cultivate the development of a responsible attitude toward sexuality, in which humans are not exploited as sexual objects, and in which intimacy, sensitivity, respect, and honesty in interpersonal relations are encouraged. Moral education for children and adults is an important way of developing awareness and sexual maturity.”

Each of Planned Parenthood’s Presidents beginning with its founder Margaret Sanger in 1957, have received awards from the American Humanist Association. Their humanist views on sexual activity are what merit them these “awards”.

PP As a Stealer of Souls

How does Planned Parenthood view success? Planned Parenthood believes that they are successful when a community says it’s OK for their youth to have sexual activity and then permits Planned Parenthood to educate the youth in their own way. But, it doesn’t stop there --as former Planned Parenthood President, Alan Goodmacher, put it: “We will secure the right to abortion through sex education.”

Planned Parenthood's battle for the lives and souls of our teenagers has begun in earnest. Planned Parenthood wants teen sex to be accepted as normal and wants to push our youth into accepting the idea that sex is simply a recreational activity to be pursued whenever you feel you are ready. However, as Catholic Christians we know that the acceptance of sin is dangerous. The Apostle Paul tells us: “Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the immoral person sins against his own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18).

Our Lady of Fatima told us: “More sins will go to Hell over sins of the flesh…” These are the sins which PP is encouraging them to participate in and to make them feel as if there is no harm in performing.

Mr. Sedlak clearly stated, “Planned Parenthood is an organization dedicated to bringing our children into lives of sin.”

The Oregon Report

PP documented its strategy in a 71-page document known as the Oregon Team Report. The report examined what Planned Parenthood considers to be its successes in France, Germany and the Netherlands and it identified what made these programs so successful. It wants to duplicate these same kinds of successes in the United States. They are as follows:

The level of participation of youth ages 15 -19 has steadily declined in the Dutch Reformed Church and the Dutch Catholic Church in the last 30 years, from 60% in 1965 to 9% in 1993.

France is about 90% Catholic, but like Germany and the Netherlands, church participation has drastically declined from a high of 80% in the 1960’s to between 4% and 7% after 1980.

In France, the Catholic Leadership, in recognizing the loss of members has acknowledged that it cannot and should not dictate its members’ decisions over sexuality – related matters.

For the sake of the souls of our children, we must protect them from any program protected or influenced by Planned Parenthood.

PP Can Be Beat

The good news is that the number of Planned Parenthood facilities has been shrinking in size. Last year alone, 120 clinics were closed. There are six states which do not pay money to Planned Parenthood.

What Can You Do To Stop Planned Parenthood?

The battle against Planned Parenthood is one of “Spiritual Warfare”. If people lived according to God’s commandments, Planned Parenthood would be out of business. Our job is to spread God’s Word.

How do we do this?

1. Get serious about your prayer life. Pray and fast for the closing of PP.

2. Be present at PP on a regular, weekly basis. Create a gentle, loving presence.

3. If you are present and recognize a minor entering the facility, contact the parent(s). The word will spread around her school -- others will be warned and will stay away.

4. Educate others on the evils of Planned Parenthood. Share the Truth.
