The History of All Hallow's Eve

In 834, the evening of October 31 became All Hallow's Eve when Pope Gregory IV established November 1 as the feast of All Saints, followed by a day in honor of her soon-to-be saints, the feast of All Souls. This time of year was chosen because it was the time of barrenness on the earth. The harvest was in, the summer done, and the world was brown, drab, and mindful of death. Snow had not yet descended to comfort and hide the bony trees or blackened fields; so with little effort man could look about and see a meditation on death and life hereafter.

Apparently how you spent the vigil of All Saints depended on where you lived in Christendom. In Brittany the night was solemn and without a trace of merriment. On their "night of the dead" and for forty-eight hours thereafter, the Bretons believed the poor souls were liberated from Purgatory and were free to visit their old homes. The vigil for the souls, as well as the saints, had to be kept on this night because of course the two days were consecutive feasts — and a vigil is never kept on a feast.

Breton families prayed by their beloveds' graves during the day, attended church for "black vespers" in the evening and in some parishes proceeded thence to the charnel house in the cemetery to pray by the bones of those not yet buried or for whom no room could be found in the cemetery. Here they sang hymns to call on all Christians to pray for the dead and, speaking for the dead, they asked prayers and more prayers. Late in the evening in the country parishes, after supper was over, the housewives would spread a clean cloth on the table, set out pancakes, curds, and cider. And after the fire was banked and chairs set round the table for the returning loved ones, the family would recite the De Profundis (Psalm 129) again and go to bed. During the night a townsman would go about the streets ringing a bell to warn them that it was unwise to roam abroad at the time of returning souls.

It was in Ireland and Scotland and England that All Hallows' Eve became a combination of prayer and merriment. Following the break with the Holy See, Queen Elizabeth forbade all observances connected with All Souls' Day. In spite of her laws, however, customs survived; even Shakespeare in his Two Gentlemen of Verona has Speed tell Valentine that he knows he is in love because he has learned to speak "puling like a beggar at Hallowmas." This line must have escaped the Queen.
Tricks or treats

Begging at the door grew from an ancient English custom of knocking at doors to beg for a "soul cake" in return for which the beggars promised to pray for the dead of the household. Soul cakes, a form of shortbread — and sometimes quite fancy, with currants for eyes — became more important for the beggars than prayers for the dead, it is said. Florence Berger tells in her Cooking for Christ a legend of a zealous cook who vowed she would invent soul cakes to remind them of eternity at every bite. So she cut a hole in the middle and dropped it in hot fat, and lo — a doughnut. Circle that it is, it suggests the never-ending of eternity. Truth or legend, it serves a good purpose at Halloween.

The refrains sung at the door varied from "a soul cake, a soul cake, have mercy on all Christian souls for a soul cake," to the later:

Soul, soul, an apple or two,
If you haven't an apple, a pear will do,
One for Peter, two for Paul,
Three for the Man Who made us all.

Here they had either run out of soul cakes or plain didn't care. Charades, pantomimes, and little dramas, popular remnants of the miracle and morality plays of the Middle Ages, commonly rehearsed the folk in the reality of life after death and the means to attain it. It is probably from these that the custom of masquerading on Halloween had its beginning.

St. Wolfgang: Bishop, Reformer

Born in 924 in Swabia, Germany, St. Wolfgang studied at Reichenau, Switzerland under the Benedictines and at Wurzburg before serving as a teacher in the cathedral school of Trier. He entered the Benedictines at Einsiedeln (964) and was appointed head of the monastery school, receiving ordination in 971. He then set out with a group of monks to preach among the Magyars of Hungary, but the following year (972) was named bishop of Regensburg by Emperor Otto II.

As bishop, he distinguished himself brilliantly for his reforming zeal and his skills as a statesman. He brought the clergy of the diocese into his reforms, restored monasteries, promoted education, preached enthusiastically, and was renowned for his charity and aid to the poor, receiving the title Eleemosynarius Major (Grand Almoner). He also served as tutor to Emperor Henry II while he was still king.

Wolfgang died at the village of Pupping in upper Austria, on October 31, 994. He was canonized in 1052 by Pope St. Leo IX.

Bishop Finn: Warriors with Our Eyes Fixed on Heaven

Last Saturday I had the privilege of consecrating the restored church of Old St. Patrick. This is the oldest existing Catholic church in Kansas City. It will serve as the Oratory for the Latin Mass community which first began here under Bishop John Sullivan, and for many years has shared the parish of Our Lady of Sorrows.

One of the beauties of the Traditional Latin High Mass that I celebrated is that it highlights a most profound aspect of the Mass, namely our participation with the Communion of Saints. The high altar, multiple candles, incense and Gregorian chant, collectively give us a striking image of the Heavenly Jerusalem which is our ultimate home. Every Mass celebrates this reality, but I must admit that the traditional Mass captured this magnificent expression of the ultimate hope and goal of Christians in a powerful way. We should reflect on this often, because the ultimate goal of everything we do is to get ourselves to heaven and bring with us as many as we can.

The month of November begins with the two great celebrations: All Saints day (November 1) and the Commemoration of All Souls (November 2). These feasts celebrate our communion with the "Church triumphant" in heaven, and the "Church suffering" in purgatory. Today I would like to share a few brief comments about what we have sometimes called the "Church militant," the Church here on earth.

We, the Church on earth, have a very special challenge as participants in the grace and life of Jesus Christ to "fight" against the enemies of Christ's justice and truth and light and life. We must be attentive to the demands of this daily "battle" in a peaceable but serious manner.

I am sometimes amazed at the casual manner with which Christians, Catholics included, take up our life within what Pope John Paul II rightly called the "culture of death." The Church, by comparison, reminds us that we are engaged - by reason of our Baptism and Confirmation - in a battle, "not with flesh and blood, but with the principalities and powers, with the rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in heaven." (Eph 6:12) Jesus Christ has won the ultimate battle, but we, in the course of our human life must make our choice, determining on whose side we will live and die. Whose side will you choose?!

What is at stake in this battle is our immortal soul, our salvation. My responsibility as bishop is with the eternal destiny of those entrusted to my care. My total energies must be directed to the well being of those who otherwise may come under the spell of a radically flawed and fundamentally distorted moral sense, at odds with what our Mother the Church teaches. There are objective and transcendent truths. There is such a thing as right and wrong. There is a legitimate hierarchy of moral evils, and the direct willful destruction of human life can never be justified; it can never be supported. Do you believe this firm teaching of the Church?

Did you know that in Canada priests and Christian ministers have already been brought before tribunals for preaching and teaching in support of marriage? They are charged with "hate speech" against homosexuality. In light of the tyranny of choice growing each day in our own beloved country, we ought to be ready for similar attacks on religious freedom. We must not fail to preach the Gospel. We can not withhold the truth of our faith. That is why I will never be silent about human life. It is why I am proud of so many others - bishops, priests, deacons, religious and laity - who are not afraid to speak out about the values that matter most. What about you?!

Our Lord told His apostles that they would be hated by the world, just as He was. Nearly all of them died a martyr's death. As warriors in the Church militant, we must never resort to violence. But we must stand up fearlessly against the agents of death, the enemies of human life. Human beings are not Satan, but we know too well that they can come under his spell. They can become willing agents of death, numbed and poisoned in this culture of death. What about you?!

As we begin this month of November, the month of the Church, let us call upon the Saints to inspire us, befriend us, and pray for us. Let us offer many prayers and sacrifices for the poor souls who have gone before us. They need our meritorious suffrages to help them reach heaven.
And let us resolve to be warriors of the Church militant; warriors with our eyes fixed on heaven. Let us ask God's mercy and strength to persevere in our call - individual and collective - to holiness. Mary, Mother of the Church, Pray for us! o

Fr. Tom Euteneuer: Commending the Bishops

Faithful Catholics in the US have been both stunned and gratified by the recent show of episcopal strength in dealing with the heretical nonsense of "Catholics" in public life who clearly misrepresent the Church's teaching on vital issues. To date, more than fifty bishops have spoken out about this kind of misconduct or issued guidelines about voting at this critical juncture in our nation's history. The trend is truly heartening. Let's pray that it continues! Much more could be done, of course, but I am grateful that more bishops are standing up to strengthen and protect the faith of millions. Many have been longing for this show of valor from our fathers in the faith - and yes, they are our spiritual fathers. When they are strong, we are strong; and when they are weak - the flock is ravaged by wolves.

A few bishops deserve special mention. A good example is Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento, CA, who stood up before the misnamed "Catholic Gay and Lesbian" conference last month and proclaimed the Church's natural law teaching that homosexual acts are mortal sins. A whole group walked out of his speech in protest, and he was reviled afterward for daring to present Catholic teaching to them. The organizer of the conference actually apologized to the attendees for the talk! Bishop Soto made no apologies though. Likewise, San Diego Auxiliary, Bishop Salvatore Cordileone, has been the strongest champion of the legal effort to define marriage as between one man and one woman to combat the radical homosexual lobby in California.

Nor can we fail to mention the strong pro-life stances of Archbishops Burke (now in Rome) and Chaput (Denver) as well as Bishops Vasa (Baker, OR), Farrell and Vann (Dallas, TX), Martino (Scranton, PA) and Mallooly (Wilmington, DE) who are representatives of a group of other bishops who have made their voices heard forcefully on the Catholic voting issue.

It is not just in the US, however, where bishops have been applying their authority in an astonishing fashion. Here are just a few more of the good things happening around the world in the episcopal college:

The Bishops of Canada issued a statement criticizing the bestowing of Canada's highest honor, the Order of Canada, on extreme abortionist Henry Morganthaler as if he were an example of all that makes Canada proud. Cardinal Turcotte of Montreal actually returned his own Order of Canada medal as a sign of protest to this mockery;

John Cardinal Njue of Nairobi, Kenya recently issued a marvelous, hard-hitting pastoral letter to his Archdiocese concerning the efforts to legalize abortion in that pivotal African country which to date has been such a stronghold against the culture of death;

The Philippines Episcopal Conference came out forcefully against the US- and UN-inspired Reproductive Health Bill which attempted to legalize every form of perversion on that Catholic populace; the bill was subsequently defeated but the bishops know that theirs is a regular battle in which they must engage for the souls of their people.

Thankfully, there are many more examples of episcopal courage that we could add to the reflections but suffice it to say that there seems to be a new wind blowing through the College of Bishops all around the world these days. Perhaps that wind is originating from Bavaria, but whatever its origin, let us continue to pray for our bishops and priests who are always on the firing line between the culture of life and the culture of death. We also need to thank them personally when they speak out in order to encourage them to do even more! Now that the example has been set, let us hope that other bishops and priests will have the audacity of our hope in Christ to go out and do the same!

This is so relaxing and comforting!

No Joke: Obama's Secret Police!

A Civilian Security Force just as well funded as the military? Here in America? That is exactly what Obama wants and he is not ashamed to tell you about it! This guy is a real nut case!

Basically what Obama is talking about is creating a Committee for the Defense of Liberal Ideology and Political correctness funded by a half trillion taxpayer dollars. National Security for this crowd is not about stopping terrorists from killing our children. National Security means to teach our children to understand the terrorists and their motivations so that our children can learn how to live their lives submissively so as not to offend the sensitivities of the very sensitive America haters.

Five Tips for Those Who Plan to Vote for Obama

1. Don’t wear T-Shirts or other paraphernalia in support of your candidate. However, you can copy the image on the left, apply glue to the reverse side of it, and then put it on your clothing, and the line will move faster. If you yell, "Yes we can!" or "Save us, Obama!" as loud as you can, you'll be out of there in no time at all!

2. Vote as early as you can -- most polling places open around 6PM, but in other states they open at 7PM. Don't forget the date to vote -- Tuesday, November 11. Mark it on your calendar now.

4. Make sure you register to vote as soon as you arrive. You won't be allowed to vote unless you are registered first. Don't carry any ID with you -- just say the secret acronym: HOPE = Helping Obama Pretend he's Exciting.

5. Plan ahead. Make sure you know where the polling places are. This year they will be located at the abortion mill or the Planned Parenthood closest to your home. The pleasant friendly abortionists there will willingly take your generous donation on behalf of Barack Obama. That way you can "share the wealth". Those poor, starving abortionists really need your money. It's also more convenient for those who desire to vote and get an abortion at the same time -- something that will make Barack Obama very happy and keep everyone so relieved that they don't have to be "punished with a baby." By the way, be sure to vote before the abortion. You may need to spend some time in the hospital emergency room afterwards if you're lucky enough to make it there.

Be sure to salute the Obama secret police on your way out the door.

Obama's Plans for Your Taxes

Obama told Joe the Plumber he believes in spreading the wealth. Examining his record and policies shows he will redistribute taxpayers' hard-earned money to his abortion cronies. In an economy where money is getting scarce, businesses are closing, people are losing their jobs, and the stock market is tanking, Obama wants to raise taxes. Our government is in deficit, but Obama will continue the flow of MILLIONS of YOUR tax dollars to his abortion cronies.

Seven Reasons Why Barack Obama is Not a Christian

Barack Obama has on repeated occasions stated that he is a Christian. However, his actions speak otherwise. In this video, Rev. The Minister of Planned Parenthood: Barack Obama

Between 1882 and 1968, 3,446 Blacks were lynched in the U.S. That number is surpassed in less than 3 days by abortion.

1,452 African-American children are killed each day by the heinous act of abortion.

3 out of 5 pregnant African-American women will abort their child.

Since 1973 there has been over 13 million Black children killed and their precious mothers victimized by the U.S. abortion industry.

St. Alphonsus Rodriguez, Mystic

St Alphonsus, or Alonzo as he was called in Spain, was born at Segovia in Spain, on July 12, 1531. From childhood he was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He loved her as his mother. This childlike devotion to her was the main reason for his sanctity.

Alphonsus was destined to be an example of Christian perfection in many states of life. On the death of his father in 1545, he was called home from Alcala where he was studying, by his mother burdened with the care of eleven young children, and though a boy of fourteen, he was placed at the head of the family business, which involved the buying and selling of wool.

At the request of his mother, Alphonsus married the virtuous Maria Suarez. His married life of four years was marked with much suffering. His wife died leaving behind a son; his mother, too, died leaving behind her eleven children. He was about 32 years old when his mother died. He bore his cross willingly.

Alphonsus started a more fervent life. He wanted to become a Jesuit. Twice he was refused admittance due to his older age, but providence came to his rescue. The Provincial admitted him on January 6, 1571. At the age of thirty-seven, Alphonsus entered the Jesuit novitiate and after six months he was instructed to go to the Jesuit college of Montesion in Palma on the island of Majorca off the coast of Spain, to complete his novitiate training. At the end of his novitiate, in 1573, he pronounced the three vows of religion. He was assigned various duties and, in 1579, he was made doorkeeper at the college and remained in this office until his death.

Nothing could be more insignificant in the eyes of the world and more monotonous in itself than such a life. By his deep interior spirit that animated him, Alphonsus transformed and transcended it with his: fervent spirit of prayer, deep union with God, devotion to Mary, especially the Rosary, which allowed him to live constantly in the presence of God even in the hardest times. His spirit of obedience was remarkable. His love for his fellowmen and his spirit of penance inspired many to follow him. People in high positions came to him in their troubles and difficulties to seek his advice. He exercised a powerful influence for good upon his own Brothers, many of whom reached a high degree of sanctity. Of these the greatest was St Peter Clever, a fellow Jesuit, whom Alphonsus prepared to become the apostle of Slaves in the New World. Many owed their vocation to priesthood and religious life to him.

The year 1617, the last of his life, was for him one of great suffering. Thus ended a life of suffering, labor, love and service in the vineyard of the Lord on October 31, 1617; he died invoking in a loud and lingering voice the name of Jesus.

Alphonsus was beatified in 1825, and was canonized by Pope Leo XIII on 15 January, 1888 together with his spiritual disciple, St Peter Claver.

Prayer for New Life through Death to Sin
(Saint Alphonsus Rodriguez)

Though Your most holy passion and death, I beg of you, Lord, to grant to me a most holy life, and a most complete death to all my vices and passions and self-love, and to grant me sight of your holy faith, hope and charity.

Proof of Barack Obama's Endorsement of Infanticide

Sen. Barack Obama's (D-IL) opposition to an Illinois state law protecting infants born alive after abortion procedures is coming back to haunt him.

Illinois Senate recordings of State Senator Obama's concerns with SB 1663 - An act concerning abortion

In 1999 a gruesome discovery was made that an Illinois hospital was shelving babies to die in a soiled utility room who had survived their abortions.

The Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act was introduced in 2001 to provide legal protection to all born babies, wanted or not, including the right to medical care.

Then-state Senator Barack Obama voted against Born Alive 4 times in 3 years and was the sole senator to speak against it on the Senate floor in 2001 and 2002.

In 2002, the Federal version of Born Alive passed unanimously in the US Senate and by overwhelming voice vote in the House. The pro-abortion group NARAL even went neutral on the bill.

But In 2003, Barack Obama voted against the identical version of Born Alive in Illinois. Then, for the next 4 years he repeatedly misrepresented his vote until it was recently discovered in the IL General Assembly archives.

The Shocking truth is that Senator Obama opposed granting legal recognition to born alive infants as human beings, and thus denied them the guarantee of medical care.

However, he continues to deny this despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. As a former resident of IL who followed Barack Obama's role in the BAIPA as well as his political career very closely at this time, I can assure you that the above information is true and that Barack Obama continues to lie about this.

Barack Obama has no respect for the sanctity of human life. If he treats innocent, defenseless babies in this manner, how much do you think he values your life?

Benedict XVI: The Cross teaches Christians to renounce pride and choose love

VATICAN CITY, 29 OCT 2008 (VIS) - In today's general audience, held in St. Peter's Square in the presence of 20,000 faithful, the Pope spoke of St. Paul's theology of the Cross.

The Holy Father recalled how the Apostle of the Gentiles, following his experience on the road to Damascus, changed his life completely. Paul remained deeply marked by "the central significance of the Cross: he understood that Jesus died and rose for everyone. The Cross, then, demonstrated the gratuitous and merciful love of God", he said.

"For St. Paul the Cross had a fundamental primacy in the history of humanity. It is the focal point of his theology because 'Cross' means salvation as grace for all creatures. The theme of the Cross became an essential and principal element of the Apostle's preaching".

Benedict XVI then went on to highlight how "the 'stumbling block' and 'foolishness' of the Cross", of which St. Paul, speaks are to be found "in the fact that where there seemed to be only failure, suffering and defeat, there, in reality, is all the power of God's limitless Love".

"If for the Jews the reason for rejecting the Cross was in the Revelation, in other words in the God of the Fathers, for the Greeks - that is, the pagans - the criterion for opposing the Cross lay in reason. For them, in fact, the Cross was death, foolishness. ... It was clearly inconceivable to imagine that a God could end up on a Cross! And we see how this Greek logic has also become the common logic of our own time".

"Why", the Pope asked, "did St. Paul make the word Cross such a fundamental part of his preaching? The answer", he said, "is not difficult: the Cross reveals 'the power of God' which is different from human power; it reveals, in fact, His love".

For the Apostle "the crucified Christ is wisdom because He truly shows Who God is: the power of love which goes even unto the Cross to save man. God uses means and instruments that to human beings seem to be mere weakness. The crucified Christ reveals, on the one hand, the weakness of man and, on the other, the true power of God, in other words the gratuitousness of love; and precisely this complete gratuitousness of love is true wisdom".

The Holy Father explained how St. Paul, in his Second Letter to the Corinthians, makes "two fundamental affirmations: the one, that Christ, Whom God made to be sin for our sake, died for everyone; and the other, that God reconciled us to Him not counting our trespasses against us. It is from this 'ministry of reconciliation' that all slaves are ransomed".

"St. Paul renounced his own life and committed himself totally to the ministry of reconciliation, of the Cross which is salvation for us all. This is something we must also do. We can find our strength in the humility of love and our wisdom in the weakness to renounce, thus to enter into the strength of God. ... We have to mould our lives on this true wisdom, not living for ourselves, but living in faith in the God of Whom we can all say: 'He loved me and gave Himself for me'".

Developmentally Disabled voters coached into supporting Obama

This news story comes from California:

The California Republican party is asking the secretary of state to investigate an organized voting campaign involving developmentally disabled adults in Tuolumne County.

As many as ten clients of the Thumbs Up! adult care center have already cast absentee ballots under the supervision of center director David Simerley, and nearly all of them were for Barack Obama.

"We all registered to vote and we all sat together as a group and went over our ballots and voted," Simerley told News10.

Among those voting was Michael Rascon, 56, whose father described him as having the mental capacity of a 5-year-old.

"What kind of people would do this to somebody like that," asked Sam Rascon, who discovered his son had registered and voted only after seeing him with an Obama button last Thursday. "He wouldn't know one candidate from another."

My Comment: Can you imagine using Developmentally Disabled people in this way?

Win or Lose, Many See Palin as Future of Party

Despite all the criticism, she has many supporters among Republicans who see her as bright, tough and a star in a party with relatively few on the horizon.

“She’s dynamite,” said Morton C. Blackwell, who was President Ronald Reagan's liaison to the conservative movement. Mr. Blackwell described vying to get close to Ms. Palin at a fund-raiser in Virginia, lamenting that he could get only within four feet.

“I made a major effort to position myself at this reception,” he said, adding that he is eager to sit down with her after the election to discuss the future. Asked if the weeks of unflattering revelations and damaging interviews had tarnished her among conservatives, he replied, “Not a bit.”

St. Serapion of Antioch, Bishop

Bishop of Antioch and ecclesiastical writer. He was much praised by St. Jerome and Eusebius of Caesarea for his theological writings, and he was considered one of the chief theologians of his era. He became bishop of Antioch, Syria, in 190, and. was revered as a theologian. Only fragments of his work have survived. Among the extant writings are a letter to the Church of Rhossus forbidding the reading of the non-canonical Gospel of St. Peter and a letter against the heresy of Montanism.

He died in 211 AD and his feast day is celebrated today in the Church calendar.

Obama's Higher Taxes and His Culture of Death

Some people have blindfolds on and just don't get it -- with Barack Hussein Obama in office there will be higher taxes. Democrats are well-known for raising taxes and spending our money -- especially on things we don't want them spending it on -- like abortions done by Planned Parenthood, sex education for kindergartners, special rights for homosexuals, and lots of other disgusting causes.

With Obama in office, those who need financial help won't get it. Having been poor myself -- I know that the Democrats don't help the poor -- it's all rhetoric. When my husband was laid off last year from his professional position for several months -- the Democratic congress did nothing to help us. We nearly lost our home, while some who were unwilling to work or to do anything to help themselves other than cash a check (as well as Senator Obama, who was getting rich from ACORN and deals with criminals and terrorists), were living high on the hog.

Like most US citizens, we don't want government hand-outs, but we do want job opportunities -- so stop giving away our jobs to places outside of the U.S. and stop cow-towing to other countries and the terrorists, Barry!

It's Obama and other democrats like him who have consistently raised taxes both in and out of the state of IL -- just ask any business owner and they will give you the scoop on him. Our relatives in IL who own small businesses have been penalized by Obama and his buddy Governor B.'s higher taxes. Like Joe the Plumber, they are being penalized by Barack Obama's socialist policies.

It is Obama and people like him who want companies outside of the USA to profit and its hard-working American citizens to lose their jobs. He is more concerned with Africa and Europe than he is with the people in this country. Obama is more concerned with the abortionists making big bucks than he is about us feeding our families. He makes deals with criminals, terrorists, and backs the murderers at Planned Parenthood. Middle class Americans and middle class values mean nothing to the democrats. (There was a time when they once did, but not anymore.)

Also, Obama has no respect for Blacks -- if he did, why would he support and fund an organization that is causing the Black race to die out? (We're talking genocide here.) Why is he endorsed 100% by Planned Parenthood -- one of the largest racist organizations in the world? Most informed Black US citizens realize this. Those who bury their heads in the sand - no matter what race they are -- just don't have a clue.

What does Obama do to help pregnant women? Nothing. He wants them to a undergo procedures that will endanger their lives and kill their babies! To him, a human life is "a punishment"!

Has Obama ever mentioned helping pregnant women by supplying them with food, clothing, and shelter? No, that is not an option -- abortion is the only option he gives women. It is the Christian, pro-life crisis pregnancy centers that help women -- those that the democrats want to shut down.

Wake up! Wake up! Daylight is approaching
and if we don't do something now to help save lives and care for the poor and the suffering in our own backyard, we can't even begin to help others in the rest of the world. What will our future be like with a Mad Man like the faithless, immoral, terrorist - loving Barack Hussein Obama as our President?

What our country needs is morals -- strong morals based on our faith in God. We need to return to our Christian roots and Barry is no Christian -- no matter what he says. He is out for Barry and no one else. He does not desire to serve, but to be served. His lies are so transparent. If you want to believe this compulsive liar and sociopath -- go right ahead. You, in fact, are deceiving yourself if you do. You refuse to face the truth and are eager to commit a grave sin by supporting the culture of death. You are seeking your own will instead of God's will. Take off the blinders and enter into the light -- I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

To those who plan to vote for Obama: Think and pray about what I have said and what the 80 Bishops who have condemned Barack Obama's policies have said. It's not too late to change your mind.

To those who are undecided: Pray that God will give you guidance to vote for someone who truly cares about human life -- someone who desires to serve our country instead of himself, and someone who upholds and defends the culture of life.

To those who have voted or plan to vote pro-life: Please continue to pray and fast for this election. Keep up the good fight -- this spiritual battle is not over! God bless you!

"We don't have a debt crisis, we have a death crisis!"

Killing the Economy: Dennis Howard's "Elephant in the Living Room"

Although it would be simplistic to blame the current financial crisis on America's propensity for killing the unborn, it is equally simplistic to pretend, as many do, that the two have absolutely no correlation.

Demographic researcher Dennis Howard predicted the long-term economic consequences of abortion in his 1997 book, The Abortion Bomb: America's Demographic Disaster. He wrote, "I see little hope that we can avoid an eventual crash on Wall Street that will make the 1930’s look like cashing in your cards after a bad game of Monopoly."

Well, the S&P 500 has not quite reached the levels characteristic of the Great Depression, but the most recent charts are beginning to bear more than a passing resemblance to those of that era.

Howard, whose background is in market research and investigative reporting, has been tracking the effects of institutionalized abortion on the American economy since 1995, and predicted the downturn that we now find ourselves in. "No matter how you slice it," writes Howard in a 2008 piece entitled The $35 Trillion Elephant in the Living Room, "aggressive 'population control' exacts a huge price in future economic growth that can never be recovered. Indeed, it is a loss that reverberates through all future generations. Without an enormous new Baby Boom lasting another 40 or 50 years, that growth is lost forever."

"We don’t have a debt crisis," he continued, "we have a death crisis." MORE

22 Weeks: Stunning Movie

WorldNetDaily: Born-alive abortion movie stuns viewers -- Film based on mom's true story reaches new audiences, including Congress

From Jill Stanek: 22 Weeks screenings:

I began writing about the death of Baby Rowan soon after it happened in 2005, having received a call from his distraught mother, who had an instant change of heart when seeing her baby.

He was aborted in an Orlando, FL, abortion clinic toilet and survived for several minutes. The Born Alive Infants Protection Act should have protected him but didn't. State and federal prosecutors failed him. Clinic workers went so far as to turn away EMTs at the mill door who the mother had called to help her baby.

Now a short movie has been made of that tragedy, 22 Weeks. MORE

My Comments: I am looking forward to this new pro-life film. You can demand that it come to your city. Just go to the widget on the left hand sidebar of this blog above my movie reviews.

Catholic Carnival 196: Explorations

Sarah at Another Day of Catholic Pondering has done such a beautiful job on this week's Catholic Carnival! She makes us all want to go there just to look at the great photos she has posted and to appreciate the special blessings of motherhood! Yes, I get a little sentimental and teary-eyed when I look at the special baby photos there. I also laugh a little and reminisce.

But the best part of the Carnival are the fantastic posts.

Here are just a few of my favorites:

Asking for Help taps into the camaraderie of this Catholic blogosphere, as our own beloved Steven (he of Bookworming Fame) asks most humbly for our help. Would you consider it?

Decorating for Advent when you could decorate for Christmas? It's the ongoing challenge of Catholic parents everywhere. Find an idea here for compromising with lights.

Laughter Is Still the Best Medicine reminds us that for centuries humans have needed to be reminded not to take themselves too seriously.

Hope will make you consider, through a personal revelation, just why this is a cardinal virtue.

Please be sure to visit Sarah and read all the posts this week. There is a wonderful array of stories on a variety of topics in the Catholic blogosphere.

Today's Catholic Tradition: Bread of the Dead

Today is the day that Christians began to prepare food such as bread of the dead and soul cakes for the feast of All Souls. In some areas people would beg for ingredients to make these cakes on this day.

A soul cake was a sort of oat cake, which, in Catholic times was baked specially as a gift for poor and needy people, and these people on receiving it would pray for the dead belonging to those who gave it.

Fire has always been a symbol of immortality, and the immortality of the soul was symbolized by lighting fires during the night of All Souls; perhaps the simpler people thought that their little furze fires dotted over the hillsides would show the way to souls who were that day making their journey from purgatory to heaven! Long after the Catholic faith had been cast out of this country, relics remained at Soulmass of the once universal praying for the dead, though, as was inevitable, these became empty and corrupt. Even in the 19th century girls still went "souling" from door to door; people baked and ate soul cakes, people, who would have abhorred the idea that the dead can be helped by prayers, would say on this day:

"A soul cake, a soul cake, God have mercy on all Christian souls for a soul cake."

Sts. Simon and Jude, Apostles and Martyrs

Today is the feast day of Sts. Simon and Jude Thaddaeus, Apostles, who both preached the Gospel in Mesopotamia and Persia.

The name of St. Simon usually appears eleventh in the list of the apostles. The first cousin of Jesus, he was born at Cana and is surnamed "The Zealot." He preached in Egypt, Spain, and Lybia, leaving behind him the fertile hills of Galilee, where he had been engaged in the healthful cultivation of the vineyards and olive gardens. He later rejoined his brother, Saint Jude, in Persia, where they preached and died as martyrs together.

Patronage: curriers; sawmen; sawyers; tanners

St. Jude, also called Thaddeus or "Courageous", is the author of the short epistle in the New Testament. He was the apostle who asked the Lord at the Last Supper why he had manifested himself only to the disciples and not to the whole world (John 14:22). He was the son of Cleophas and the woman named Mary who stood with the Blessed Virgin Mary at the foot of the Cross as Our Lord was redeeming the world. He is remembered as a Healer and Exorcist, who could exorcise pagan idols, causing the demons to flee and the statues to crumble.

Like all of the other 11 faithful Apostles except St. John the Evangelist, St. Jude was martyred. He was beaten with a club and beheaded. His relics are in the Vatican.

Patronage: desperate situations; forgotten causes; hospital workers; hospitals; impossible causes; lost causes, diocese of Saint Petersburg, Florida

Sts. Simon and Jude left the comfort and safety of their secure environment to go out into the world and to preach the gospel, converting many hearts. As simple farmers, they appear to be the least likely candidates to be called to perform such a great task for the Lord. However, the Lord chooses the simple and and the weak and empowers them with grace to do the "impossible." Let us pray that we, too, will be obedient to the Lord in the little tasks He calls us to do each day so that we, too, can carry out His will in our lives and draw others to Him -- an accomplishment which would otherwise be impossible without our permission and acceptance of the gift His grace.

Father, You revealed yourself to us through the preaching of your apostles Simon and Jude. Help us follow their example, to draw others to You through our actions today, as we perform our daily duties and endeavor to carry out your holy will in our lives. Amen.

Great Post on Sarah Palin

Check it out: A Confirmation of My Own Intuition About Sarah Palin

This Made My Day!

Today I had some business dealings with a company in Tennessee. I dialed the number (or rather what I thought was the number) and spoke with a friendly man with a deep southern accent. He told me that one of the numbers I dialed was wrong and then he initiated a conversation about the weather here in Wichita, KS.

We had a brief chat and he ended the call with a cheery, "Don't forget to vote for John McCain!"

My response was, "I most definitely will be voting for John McCain!"

Just as quickly as I had said that, he came back with excitement in his voice, "How do you like that Sarah? Isn't she something?!!!"

Now, that made my day!

Melissa Ohden: "Face the Choice"

Asking for Help A Second Time

Here is a plea for help from my friend and blogger, Steven, at Book Reviews and More, who was off work for 30 months with an injury, and is in need of assistance to provide for the basic needs of his family:

I was told my original request was not clear. We need help to make ends meet, specifically rent that is due this week. I was not asking for help to keep the blog going. I was asking for help to meet our needs, diapers, formula, gas, groceries ...

I have always had a hard time asking for and accepting help. I know it is a personal character defect and have been working on it. I once had a friend accuse me of robbing others of the blessing of giving, because I would not ask for help to go on a retreat even though over the few years prior to that I had sponsored others going.Well It is time to ask for help again. As many of you know I was off work for 30 months with an injury, that took place at work. I am thankful that I have retrained and am now employed full time. You can read my three part series called From Injury Back to Work Again. However we are still feeling the financial stress that time off work caused, and the emotional stress the financial causes. Therefore much as Kathy Shaidle started a drive for help 18 months ago for me (see here, here and here). But I am here again asking for some help.

The time off work was both a blessing and a trial. It was hard because of the stresses of the injury and dealing with the pain. It was a blessing because I was able to attend Mass almost every day, I was able to pray the whole rosary each day. But as the time went from months to years spiritually it became very tiring. Spiritually and emotionally it became a desert. We also had our first two children during my time off work, which added both blessings and greater financial stress.

We have 2 children 2 and under and my wife is now back to work evenings and weekends. But it will take a while for us to fully recover from my time off work. So if you can see your way to help support us make ends meet at this time, it would really help till we get caught up. We would really appreciate it. So thank you in advance. You can use the PayPal Donate Button on the sidebar. I have done just about everything I can, I have sold my entire DVD library, and almost three quarters of my books. Asking for help is our last option.

My Comments: This is a very humbling and hard thing to do for many of us. I pray that many will reach out to Steven and his family in their time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Have You Seen This Website Yet?

A Web phenomenon is sweeping across pro-life circles, largely under the radar of mainstream news.

With the full support of American Life League, and only eight days before an historic election, a Web site called "Just One Judge" is invigorating the pro-life movement.

With a unique fusion of video and petition, "Just One Judge" calls on all Americans who would defend human life to dedicate their votes to that most important issue and hold our elected officials to their campaign promises even after Nov. 4. Visitors to the site are asked to sign a pledge to be given to the next president of the United States. This pledge is a reminder that LIFE is the most important issue to millions of Americans. It is also an admonition to the next president that it is the president's solemn and sworn duty to appoint Supreme Court justices who will apply equal justice under the law – for the born and preborn alike.

"The next president and U.S. Senate will appoint and confirm the one Justice who will be the deciding vote on whether to overturn Roe v. Wade," the Web site states, "to restore the Constitutional guarantee of Life, or to allow the killing of innocent unborn children to continue."

The site features a video that scrolls backwards and forwards displaying, with the same words, two contradictory messages: one that our country will choose murder in the name of convenience, the other that with just one judge, we can change the course of history and protect all innocent human life.

The Largest Pro-life Event in the Nation

When? November 4th. Where? Local Voting/Polling Sites around the nation, 7 am to 7 pm in most areas. What? Cast your vote for your Local, State and National Pro-Life Candidates. The cost is free to you.

Every Pro-Lifer can be heard, but only if they cast their vote! Don’t let the media vote for you. Don’t believe the media when they tell you that your vote won’t count. Don’t let the media tell you who is going to win; YOU tell them who is going to win - make YOUR voice heard – Vote on November 4th.

An election is the government asking for your opinion. They want to know who YOU think is the best qualified person to hold a position in the government. Voting does not mean you are placing someone in office to rule over you. It is just giving your opinion; who do you feel would be the best for that position. Be sure to let them know on November 4th.

In God's eyes every Christian votes in every election.

We vote by ballot or by silence. Silence gives weight to those in opposition to God's moral absolutes.

In Matthew chapter 25 the Master gave the servants money to invest. One servant buried it thinking he did well. The Master called him "lazy" and "wicked". He took the money and expelled the servant into "outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth". You have been given a vote, will you bury it or give it more weight by investing it?

Obama Bombshell Audio Uncovered!

He wants to Radically Reinterpret the Constitution to Redistribute Wealth!

In a 2001 Chicago Public Radio Interview Obama is discussing the best way to bring about a Redistribution of Wealth!

Barbara West of WFTV in Orlando, Florida Gives Democrat Party Vice Presidential Candidate Joe Biden A Grilling. Barack Obama's campaign cancelled a WFTV-Channel 9 interview with Jill Biden, wife of Sen.Biden. Biden sure does like to lie and whine a lot! Of course Obama is a socialist, a Marxist ...that's why the Communist Party endorses him! We heard it when he spoke to Joe the Plumber and we have heard in the above interview. Obama and Biden are just a deeper and deeper hole for themselves by denying what we have heard with our own ears. For those who have trouble remembering who Karl Marx is, go here and here. You can read his philosophy here. You can learn more about socialism and Communism here. Archbishop Fulton preaches on the evils of communism here.

Joe Biden is licking his wounds over his grilling this weekend by WFTV’s Barbara West.

Pope John Paul II Election Prayer

Immaculate Heart of Mary, help us to conquer the menace of evil, which so easily takes root in the hearts of the people of today, and whose immeasurable effects already weigh down upon our modern world and seem to block the paths toward the future.

From famine and war, deliver us. From nuclear war, from incalculable self-destruction, from every kind of war, deliver us. From sins against human life from its very beginning, deliver us. From hatred and from the demeaning of the dignity of the children of God, deliver us. From every kind of injustice in the life of society, both national and international, deliver us. From readiness to trample on the commandments of God, deliver us. From attempts to stifle in human hearts the very truth of God, deliver us. From the loss of awareness of good and evil, deliver us. From sins against the Holy Spirit, deliver us.

Accept, O Mother of Christ, this cry laden with the sufferings of all individual human beings, laden with the sufferings of whole societies. Help us with the power of the Holy Spirit conquer all sin: individual sin and the “sin of the world,”sin in all its manifestations.

Let there be revealed once more in the history of the world the infinite saving power of the redemption: the power of merciful love. May it put a stop to evil. May it transform consciences. May your Immaculate Heart reveal for all the light of hope. Amen.

GIANNA JESSEN RESPONDS TO OBAMA'S ATTACKS releases its second ad denouncing Obama's abysmal voting record against protecting infants who survive abortions.

CHICAGO - released its second ad today featuring abortion survivor Gianna Jessen responding to Senator Barack Obama's direct attack on her. See the ad here. Additionally, Focus on the Family Action, a Colorado-based family organization, is kicking off a $500,000 radio ad buy featuring the original Gianna ad revealing Senator Obamas voting record on born alive infant protections. See here.

Giannas first ad will air on radio stations across Colorado and the new Gianna response ad will air on TV in Cleveland, and will be featured on and at

The total ad buy for both radio and TV will be close to $600,000.

Obamas response spot to the original Gianna ad was filled with false and misleading distortions about Gianna Jessen and Obama's own voting record against born alive infant protections.

Senator Obama had the audacity to go after Gianna Jessen, born alive after a failed abortion, and call her and the ad she appeared in a despicable lie, said Jill Stanek, executive director of We want to make sure voters are aware of Barack Obama's extreme stance on abortion and that he voted four times, while an Illinois State Senator, to deny medical care to infants born alive after abortions.

It's Not the Constitution That's Flawed...

Seven years before Barack Obama's "spread the wealth" comment to Joe the Plumber became a GOP campaign theme, the Democratic presidential candidate said in a radio interview the U.S. has suffered from a fundamentally flawed Constitution that does not mandate or allow for redistribution of wealth.

In a newly unearthed tape, Obama is heard telling Chicago's public station WBEZ-FM in 2001 that "redistributive change" is needed to equalize economic resources in the nation, pointing to what he regarded as a failure of the U.S. Supreme Court under Chief Justice Earl Warren in its rulings on civil rights issues in the 1960s. More

No, it's not the Constitution that's flawed, it's BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA!

Obama is all for change -- the kind of change that we have nightmares about -- the kind that destroys our fundamental rights and basic freedoms. It's the kind of change that kills innocent infants, endangers the lives of mothers, and welcomes terrorists into our country.

To those who say I don't know what I'm talking about because I am not a member of the far left biased liberal media, I have been following Obama's political career closely for the past six years. I have tracked his evil behavior and know many things about him (despite his secretiveness and deceit) that the average journalist doesn't know. I attended every one of his debates -- the man is extremely deceptive and 100% culture of death. Anyone who tells you anything different is either lying or has been deceived by him. Think about this for a minute...he supports and has defended: infanticide, abortion, genocide (supporting the killing of Black Babies) Planned Parenthood, and homosexuality. He has been fully endorsed by the Communist party and many terrorist groups. His best friends are criminals and terrorists. His own VP running mate has guaranteed that he will cause an international crisis within the first six months of his presidency if he is elected to office. Is this the type of person you want to be President of our country?

If you still aren't sure who you want to vote for, go here. And, be sure to read all the posts about Obama on this blog -- the most popular are posted on the top left hand side of the page in the sidebar.

To those of you who are true Christians, let us continue to pray and fast that Barack Obama will be overwhelmingly defeated in the upcoming election. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Saint of the Day: St. Frumentius of Ethiopia

Saint Frumentius was still a child when his uncle, a Christian philosopher of Tyre in Phoenicia, took him and his brother Edesius on a voyage to Ethiopia. In the course of their voyage the vessel anchored at a certain port, and the barbarians of that country slew with the sword all the crew and passengers, except the two children.

Because of their youth and beauty they were taken to the king at Axuma, who, charmed with the wit and sprightliness of the two boys, took special care of their education, and later made Edesius his cup-bearer and Frumentius, who was a little older, his treasurer and secretary of state. The king, on his deathbed, thanked them for their services and in reward gave them their liberty. After his death the queen begged them to remain at court and assist her in the government of the state until the young prince came of age; this they did, using their influence to spread Christianity. When the young king reached his majority, Edesius desired to return to Tyre, and Frumentius accompanied him as far as Alexandria. There he begged Saint Athanasius, its Patriarch, to send a bishop to the country where they had spent many years; and the Patriarch, considering him the best possible candidate for this office, in the year 328 consecrated him bishop for the Ethiopians.

Vested with this sacred character he gained great numbers to the Faith by his discourses and miracles, and the entire nation embraced Christianity with its young king, thus fulfilling a famous prophecy of Isaiah, uttered 800 years before Christ. (Isaiah 45:14) Saint Frumentius continued to feed and defend his flock until it pleased the Supreme Pastor to call him home and reward his fidelity and labors, in about the year 383.

We may note that the date of October 27th is also the feast day of a king of Ethiopia, Saint Elesbaan, who after overcoming the enemies of Christ, sent his royal diadem to Jerusalem in the time of the Emperor Justinus, and embraced monastic life. He died 250 years after Saint Frumentius, in 523.

World Priesthood Day is Sunday October 26

I received this via email:

World Priesthood Day 24-Hour Prayer Intentions

Here are 24 prayer petitions for priests. In the interest of several people praying together in Spirit, we are asking individuals and couples to lift up that prayer intention during the specified hour if possible. By doing so, each intention hopefully will be offered by several across the nation during that hour. In this way we can be united in our prayer focus by time zone.

12:00 AM: Pray for the health, welfare and spiritual growth of all priests, especially those that have been a gift to you and your family. Name them and visualize them as you pray.

1:00 AM: Pray that those men being called by God to the Priesthood listen and hear that call.

2:00 AM: Pray that priests may strive to be men of prayer so their work may be fruitful.

3:00 AM: Pray that priests may be an instrument for an increase of understanding and unity between the other Christian Churches and the Catholic Church.

4:00 AM: Pray for missionaries in foreign lands that they recognize the fruits of their sacrifice and come to know the love of those to whom they minister and serve.

5:00 AM: Pray for the diocesan priests that serve the Church in isolated places that they come to experience the love and service of holy men and women in their parishes.

6:00 AM: Pray that Bishops may be open and attentive to the needs of their priests.

7:00 AM: Pray for wisdom, compassion and perseverance for priests in their healing role.

8:00 AM: Pray for retired priests that they grow in appreciation of their lifelong vocation of loving Godʼs people.

9:00 AM: Pray that priests may be bonded in brotherhood and strive to overcome differences in age, culture, personality styles and taste.

11:00 AM: Pray for your parish priest and his needs.

12:00 PM: Pray for Pope Benedict XVI, your Bishop, and all the clergy to serve and lead the Church with passion and love.

1:00 PM: Pray for priests who have been unjustly accused of sexual misconduct.

2:00 PM: Pray for priests suffering from discouragement or doubt.

3:00 PM: Pray for priests who God is inviting to minister in Worldwide Marriage Encounter that they may hear the call and answer with open hearts and minds.

4:00 PM: Pray that priests will more fully experience the joy of the privilege of bringing Jesus to the people through the Sacraments of the Church.

5:00 PM: Pray for religious orders that they remain faithful to the vision of their founders as they carry on their ministry.

6:00 PM: Pray for the priest who had the most profound influence on your life.

7:00 PM: Pray for priests caught in addictions for their healing and ability to forgive themselves for their failure.

8:00 PM: Pray that priests pace themselves in a healthy manner in face of ever increasing workloads and assignments.

9:00 PM: Pray for priests experiencing physical pain or disease.

10:00 PM: Pray for a healthy balance of prayer, service and relaxation among the priests of our nation and the world.

11:00 PM: Pray that priests experience joy and peace through their participation in the lives of those they serve.

12:00 PM: Pray that the lived witness of priests will inspire young men to hear and accept Godʼs call to the priesthood.

Heavenly Father,
We come before you today to ask your blessing on our brothers,
Whom you have called to the Sacrament of Holy Orders.

Lord Jesus,
We ask that you support them with your presence
And fill them with grace to serve You faithfully.

Gracious Spirit,
Unite us in service with those whom you have called.
Open our hearts to encourage our brothers and sons to pursue your calling,
And open their hearts to hear Your call to this most Holy Sacrament.

Saint of the Day: St. Gaudentius, Bishop

The early life of St. Gaudentius is unknown and most of the information about him comes from his own writings. He was probably born in the second half of the 4th century and apparently was educated under St. Philastrius the Bishop of Brescia, Italy and had a very deep knowledge and understanding of theology.

While on pilgrimage to Jerusalem St. Philastrius died and Gaudentius was coerced into accepting the bishopric which he felt himself totally unworthy of. He was consecrated bishop by St. Ambrose and his reputation for holiness and pastoral greatness soon became known. Twenty-one of his sermons still exist today and show his uncanny ability to explain the mysteries of the faith in such a way as to inspire people of all backgrounds and abilities.

In 405 Gaudentius was sent by Pope Innocent I and Emperor Honorius to Constantinople to plead with Emperor Arcadius for the release of St. John Chrysostom. Gaudentius and his two companions were arrested and put in prison. Attempts were made to bribe them into supporting the Arian bishop who had usurped Chrysostom's place. When they refused, they were put adrift in a rotting vessel which was expected to sink. But they successfully returned to Italy.

The circumstances of Gaudentius' death are uncertain. One tradition relates that he died in the year 410. He is sometimes confused with another St. Gaudentius, the first bishop of Rimini who is reported to have been martyred by the Arians in 359.

While St. Gaudentius is an obscure figure in modern times, his life has something to teach. He was a person of true humility, but also a man of obedience to his superiors, two virtues not considered very popular today. He accepted the risk of suffering and possible death to save the life of an innocent victim of political oppression. Although few may be called on today actually to risk their lives, his example encourages taking those little risks of loss of popularity and praise in standing up for the innocent victims of oppression in religious communities, at home, at work or at school.

Bishop Finn: A Week of Prayer for Our Country

Dear Friends in Christ, As we approach this monumental election, our choices are as clear as the Scriptures themselves: "I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live." (Deut 30:19)

Pope Benedict XVI similarly guides us in the proper ordering of our values as he teaches, "The fundamental human right, the presupposition of every other right, is the right to life itself. This is true of life from the moment of conception until its natural end. Abortion, consequently, cannot be a human right - it is the very opposite. It is 'a deep wound in society.'"

Our Catholic moral principles teach that a candidate's promise of economic prosperity is insufficient to justify their constant support of abortion laws, including partial-birth abortion, and infanticide for born-alive infants. Promotion of the Freedom of Choice Act is a pledge to eliminate every single limit on abortions achieved over the last thirty-five years. The real freedom that is ours in Jesus Christ compels us, not to take life, but to defend it.

Together with the other Bishops of Missouri I am calling on all the faithful to make this last week before the election a week of prayer for our nation - a week of prayer for the protection of Human Life. MORE

Bishop's Brave Ad for the Presidential Election

Here's an ad from a very courageous Bishop, his excellency, Rene Gracida.

The text of the ad is as follows:

This is Bishop Rene H. Gracida, reminding all Catholics that they must vote in this election with an informed conscience. A Catholic cannot be said to have voted in this election with a good conscience if they have voted for a pro-abortion candidate. Barack Hussein Obama is a pro-abortion candidate.

Governor Sarah Palin: role model and hero

All along the campaign trail, children and adults with Down Syndrome have been drawn to Governor Sarah Palin's openness in how she deals with being a parent of a special needs child.
