Another Pro-choice Kennedy in Office?

How Support for Abortion Became Kennedy Dogma

The Wall Street Journal

For faithful Roman Catholics, the thought of yet another pro-choice Kennedy positioned to campaign for the unlimited right to abortion is discouraging. Yet if Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of Catholics John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is appointed to fill the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton, abortion-rights advocates will have just such a champion.

Ms. Kennedy was so concerned to assure pro-abortion leaders in New York, Britain's Guardian newspaper reported on Dec. 18, that on the same day Ms. Kennedy telephoned New York Gov. David Patterson to declare interest in the Senate seat, "one of her first calls was to an abortion rights group, indicating she will be strongly pro-choice." MORE

I don't understand why Ms. Kennedy calls herself "Catholic" when she supports a pro-death, anti-Catholic agenda and creates a public scandal for the Catholic Church. She has plenty of company -- especially within her own family and the thought of yet another pro-death Kennedy positioned to campaign for the unlimited right to abortion is not "discouraging" to me -- discouraging does not adequately describe my feelings -- "sickening" is a more accurate term.

If she really believes what she is quoted as saying that "young women facing unwanted pregnancies should have the advice of caring adults" then why is she pro-choice? There is an inconsistency in this. Pro-choicers want to close down crisis pregnancy centers and send women to Planned Parenthood where they are pressured to have abortions.

It's wonderful that she opposes legislation that would require minors to notify a parent before obtaining an abortion, but in some cases the parents are the ones who pressure or even force their daughters to have abortions in the first place. I have counseled young mothers who want to keep their baby, but the parent or parents have already decided that their daughter will have an abortion. In this case, it is the parents who require counseling more so than the young mother. If crisis pregnancy centers are closed, which is what pro-choicers have been actively trying to do, and the young mother goes to Planned Parenthood, she will not receive "the advice of caring adults". Instead, she will be strongly pressured to abort her child, as Planned Parenthood profits financially from abortions.

I also take issue with the word "unwanted" --while there may be parents who for one reason or another are unable to raise their child, no child is ever "unwanted". That child is loved by God and there is someone out there who wants that child -- who will love that child and care for him/her and if he/she were their very own biological child -- perhaps, even more.

I am also having difficulty understanding exactly what Caroline Kennedy's qualifications for this office are. Her last name is Kennedy and her dad was President John F. Kennedy, but I see none of her dad's qualities in her. Where John F. was articulate and powerful in his speech, her sentences are filled with "you know's" and she seems very insecure when she speaks in public. What actual experience does she have? She is an attorney, has written a few books, has served on a few charitable boards, and has raised money for the New York public schools --that's it!

Another thing that boggles my mind is: Why has NY's Cardinal Edward Egan not challenged her pro-choice position? And, for that matter, where are the clerics who should be challenging other celebrity pro-choice politicians like: the rest of the Kennedy clan, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and John Kerry? Why are these scandalous public figures still permitted to receive Communion?

  1. Many Bishops have finally realized before the last election that they needed to speak out! But why they still allow pro-death catholics communion? Are they afraid of making them upset?

Never once did Jesus compromise with evil, yet many BIshops are afraid to confront evil.

All your pro-death politicians are just another example of a living heart donor, they are heart-less!
