What is God calling me to do on this 36th anniversary of Roe V. Wade?

On January 20, 2009, Barack Hussein Obama, the most pro-death president in our country’s history, will be sworn into office. 2009 will be remembered as one of the most challenging years for the pro-life movement. For, Barack Hussein Obama emphatically promised more than a year ago, "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

The Freedom of Choice Act is a sweeping bill that would abolish all pro-life regulations across the nation, from parental notification laws to bans on federal funding of abortions. It would not only make unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy a national law but it would overturn the laws in all 50 states designed to reduce abortions.

Today we commemorate Sanctity of life Sunday and this coming Thursday we celebrate the 36th anniversary of Roe V Wade. This is the year that I wanted more than ever to go to Washington DC to participate in the March for Life. This is the year that I wanted to protest the mass slaughter of the innocent ones. I wanted to protest that which our pro-death President elect Obama supports so strongly. More than ever before – I wanted to say “This is not about a woman’s choice – it’s about the constitutional rights of living, growing human beings – persons – in the womb and you cannot deny their right to life!” Like those who tirelessly spoke out against slavery so long ago, I wanted to be there, representing the innocent, defenseless, voiceless victims of this horrendous abuse.

A short time ago, it appeared that there might be a way I could go to the March for Life, and I had an inkling of hope, but it was not God’s will that I attend this year. The funds were not available. In this time of recession, when many in our country are suffering financial hardships, I am sure that I am not the only one who wanted to participate, but did not have the resources to do so.

What is God calling those of us who can’t attend the March in Washington DC this year to do?

I have been thinking and praying about this and God has opened the door to many other options:

1. Participate in local pro-life activities.

a. Volunteer to pray and to stand outside your local abortion mill to draw public attention to the anniversary of Roe V. Wade. Participate in scheduled prayer vigils on the anniversary of Roe V. Wade. Give of your time to substitute for those who normally pray and do sidewalk counseling outside of the abortion mills, but are away at the March for Life.

b. Participate in parish or diocesan activities. Our parish rosary group and the respect life committee are sponsoring a Benediction and pro-life rosary on Tuesday, January 20th. On Thursday, January 22, the respect life committee is hosting Pro-life Stations of the Cross.

2. In all the dioceses of the United States of America, January 22 is observed as a particular day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life.

a. If you are working or are unable to participate in the above activities, carve out some time in your schedule for intercessory prayer. Go to Eucharistic Adoration or a make a visit to the Blessed Sacrament and pray for: an end to abortion, that FOCA will not be passed, and for the reversal of Roe V. Wade. Pray the novena of Reparation for Roe V. Wade. Pray for the conversion of our pro-death president elect and for all pro-death politicians, especially for those who claim to be Catholic and Christian, but support pro-death policies. Pray for the conversion of abortionists and for all those ensnared in the culture of death. Pray for the success of the March for Life in DC and all the other pro-life activities taking place throughout our nation.

b. Offer up your financial sacrifices and other daily trials for those who are suffering so much more than us – the unborn. They are human beings - precious children of God loved so much by Him - whom He created to live in this world, not to be destroyed and tossed out like garbage.

3. Do something to stop FOCA. There are several suggestions listed in this post. Also, consider joining “What the FOCA”?

In closing, I would like to share a poem with you that I wrote several years ago when I was praying and alternately doing sidewalk counseling outside an abortion mill. I found a note written on a green loan deposit slip on the grass outside the abortion mill apparently written by someone who had gone in to have an abortion.

by Jean M. Heimann

A lone neon green note

Secured on sacred ground

Outside the death camp

Corner - caught my eye.

Written on the reverse side

Of a wrinkled loan ticket,

It read:

"Your effort is noted.

God would rather

Replace a soul,

Than to condemn it

To A life of unwanting.”

Unwanting?

Unwanted?

By whom?

Never by the Creator!

The Creator was there

In the darkness

At the moment of conception,

And knit the baby

In her mother's womb.

Replace a soul?

Never!

He created this soul

This life -

In a unique way,

In His very image.

There is no other

Identical

To this one.

He has given this soul

What he gives all souls,

A free will,

To love him

Or to deny Him.

He sent His only Son

Rejected by a sinful,

Self-centered world

To save this little one

And to save us all.

A sinless infant boy

Born to a family dirt-poor,

Delivered in a barn,

Unwanted by the world,

But revered by

His parents, wise men, and His Creator.

He was a King, soon to die

To save the souls of sinners

Like you and me.

Rationalize all you want

To escape the responsibilities you face.

Deny the Truth

And the Devil has the last laugh.

Under the weight of your cross,

You reach out for help.

It is too heavy to carry alone.

You seek a lifeline

- A parachute -

For your drowning soul

From the raging waters

Of eternal damnation.

Your neon green note

Flashing in the sun

Is a plea for prayer

A yearning for Truth,

A cry for mercy.

Lord, have mercy

On the soul of this sinner

And on us all!

Amen.

  2. Thank you, Leticia. It is only through prayer that I have received this grace, as my human nature is very weak. God gives me the strength to accept His will.

  3. I'm more concerned (for now) with the fact that he will, by executive order, overturn Bush's conscience ruling. That will come first - probably in his first few days of office and the MSM will not report on it at all. It will just be slipped in....

  4. Great post. I often feel helpless on this day every year, wishing I could be at the March and do more. But God needs soldiers everywhere - even those who may only be able to march prayers heavenward.
