The Audacity of Obama Speaking at Notre Dame Just Might be His Downfall

I'm pleased to see that many prominent and well-respected Catholics and pro-lifers are speaking out and protesting the Notre Dame scandal now, as commencement ceremonies draw near.

In "The Audacity to Speak: Thoughts on Why Obama Should Excuse Himself from Notre Dame's Commencement Ceremonies", Day Gardner of National Black Pro-Life Union, comments, "I am baffled at the audacity of Barack who insists on speaking at this graduation even if graduating students don't want him there. President Obama doesn't get it. His ego is so big that he has no problem forcing himself on the students and faculty of Notre Dame. A man of greater stature would simply have excused himself--in order to maintain decorum and dignity."

The majority of students don't want him there nor do the alumni. So, why is he not bowing out? Is it to cause even more division in the Catholic Church? Is he trying to exert his power and authority over the Catholic sector?

Whatever the reason, real Catholics aren't cozying up to him and his actions might just have a boomerang effect on him. Ironically, he's also doing something positive for the pro-life movement which I'm sure he didn't bargain for in making this decision.

Zach Krajacic at Intellectual Conservative opines: President Obama's visit to the prestigious Catholic university could resuscitate the pro-life movement and potentially wound Mr. Obama politically. The event provides pro-life leaders with a golden, one-time opportunity to educate Americans about pro-abortion measures Mr. Obama has already signed and those he intends to implement, including the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), which would remove all restrictions on abortion.

Snip

The pro-abortion measures already signed by Mr. Obama, as well as his plans to make abortion a "health care right" by passing FOCA, have gone virtually unreported in the mainstream media. But with the controversy and media coverage surrounding Mr. Obama's visit to Notre Dame, Americans might finally become aware of his radical pro-abortion agenda.

Mr. Obama can ill-afford publicity about his scorn for the unborn and his relentless assault on human life, especially amid growing concerns about his extravagant spending, expansion of government, and questionable patriotism. FOCA is a greater threat to the principles upon which this country was founded, namely the "right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," than all of Mr. Obama's socialist economic policies combined. If passed, it will hammer in the last nail in the coffin of our "culture of death."

When Mr. Obama's war against innocent human life is revealed, it will come as a surprise only to people who obtain their news and information solely from the mainstream media. Read the entire post.

I have been feeling the same way and have been witnessing the revival and the resurgence in the pro-life movement. I have been invigorated and energized by the words and actions of: Dr. Alan Keyes and those brave souls who were imprisoned for the sake of human life, the words and actions of Judie Brown and the American Life League, the wonderful work of Jill Stanek and the Pro-life Action League, Fr. Frank Pavone and Priests for Life, our Bishops and clergy who speak out boldly for life, and by so many of my colleagues. These are the real heroes for human life and I applaud them. These are the noble leaders of our nation who fight the good fight. Let's follow them and follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Remember, "We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

  1. I believe the people who only get their news from the mainstream "drive by media" are the Kool-Aid drinkers.
