Novena for the Holy Father

The Knights of Columbus are encouraging the faithful to participate in a novena for Pope Benedict XVI which will begin on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 11, and conclude on April 19, the fifth anniversary of the Pontiff's election.

“During these days of unprecedented challenge for our Church and our Holy Father, it is vitally important for all Catholics to be united in prayer,” said Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport, Supreme Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus in a video message. “To this end the Knights of Columbus invite you to join in a special novena for Pope Benedict the XVI.”

“Over the centuries, the Church has always overcome the challenges it faces stronger, wiser and more holy,” the bishop added. “I have no doubt that the same will hold true now especially with the prayers and support of faithful Catholics throughout the world.”

The brief novena entreats a “spirit of courage and right judgment” for our “shepherd, Benedict,” that the Pontiff may build the Church “into a sacrament of unity, love and peace for all the world.” Copies of the novena prayer cards can be printed out free of charge or ordered.
