I was finishing up a late breakfast when my husband turned on the TV, which was set on KAKE (our ABC channel here in Wichita) and called to me, "You've got to see this -- Tiller's been shot!" I was astounded! I ran downstairs to our family room and just stared at the set. We (Catholics both inside and outside of the diocese) had just recently finished a novena -- a nine day period of prayer and fasting -- for the closing of Tiller's abortion mill and I had a sense that something powerful would happen, but never in a million years did I expect anything like this. You see, I was hoping for his conversion. I believe in miracles and I expected that, with God's grace, Tiller would eventually come around, as have a number of other abortionists who have been deceived the culture of death. I went to the Internet to learn that he was not only shot, but that he had been murdered. I have to humbly admit that my first reaction was one of relief: Thank God, no more babies

Although at the time of this writing, it is not known who killed Abortionist Tiller, we do know for certain that this crime was NOT the work of any true proLife person . A true proLife person respects human life as a gift from God, and leaves all life and death decisions to God Himself. This killing – if it is in any way connected to a genuine proLife group, has the potential to set back the proLife movement by 20 years or more. The Kansas Coalition for Life asks all reporters and commentators to make a clear distinction between lawless thugs who act on their own accord, and the good proLife people who obey the law , seeking a change in abortion laws via peaceful means and the legislative process. It is completely misleading, for the media to imply, in any way that this is the work of the proLife movement. We urge the media to report responsibly and truthfully in this regard. Via Motherhood in Real Time: George Tiller aborted babies up until due date. He was notorious. But today he was murdered in his church. This is a tragedy. I hate abortion. I hate late term abortion. With genuine sorrow, we reflect on today's events in prayer. Justice for all human beings includes the lives of those with whom we fundamentally disagree as well as the victims of abortion. We firmly hope the perpetrators of this act are apprehended, that the facts be made known, and that justice according to the law is preserved and dispensed. Via KAKE NEWS, Wichita, KS: Multiple sources have now confirmed for KAKE News that abortion doctor George Tiller was shot and killed this morning at his church. Authorities were called to a shooting at Reformation Lutheran Church in the 7600 block of E. 13th Street at 10:03 this morning. American Papist shares the video and text from the Doug Kmiec / Robert George debate yesterday. I was able to listen to part of the debate before I left for Mass and I was quite impressed! Today's saint of the day is St. Bona of Pisa (1156 - 1207). She was a mystic and visionary. Bona experienced visions from early childhood, in one of which she was blessed by Saint James the Greater. By the age 10 of ten she dedicated herself as an Augustinian tertiary. She regularly fasted from an early age, taking only bread and water three days a week. At the age of 14, she made the first of her many journeys, travelling to see her father who was fighting in the Crusades near Jerusalem. On her way home, she was captured and imprisoned by Islamic pirates in the Mediterranean, but was rescued by her countrymen. She made pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela and to Spain nine times, leading groups of pilgrims each time. On her final pilgrimage, she became very ill, but was able to return to Pisa and died in her little room near the church of San Martino at the age of 51. She is the patron saint of travellers, couriers, guides, pilgrims, flight attendants, and the city of Pisa.

The MacDonald family can tell us a thing or 2 about surviving abortion. The story begins in 1968, when Jenn MacDonald's mother attempted to abort her, but felt too guilty to finish the job. Jenn says... Unmarried, still in high school, and alone she tried to abort me, but in 1968 abortion was still illegal. The Catholics in Minneapolis and St. Paul received a gift from Pope Benedict today when the Vatican announced that the Pope has appointed Father Lee Piché as an auxiliary bishop for the more than 850,000 faithful in the area. Bishop-elect Piché replaces the Most Reverend Richard E. Pates, who was installed as the Bishop of the Diocese of Des Moines in May of 2008. The bishop-elect’s ordination will be on June 29, the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, in St. Paul Cathedral. "I am honored and humbled by the Holy Father’s confidence in me," Piché said of his appointment. "This is a great Archdiocese, with many blessed and talented individuals, parishes, and institutions, and with some significant challenges, too. I received the following information from our esteemed pro-life Kansas State Senator Tim Huelskamp, following Governor Parkinson's veto of the bill to defund Planned Parenthood : (It was quite enlightening to me, as I have only lived in KS for about 3 1/2 years.) Back after George Bush was first elected in 2000, Mark Parkinson rushed forward and campaigned to serve as chairman of the Kansas Republican Party. St. Augustine was a Benedictine Monk who became the first Archbishop of Canterbury in the year 598. Augustine was the prior of a monastery in Rome when Pope Gregory the Great chose him to lead a party of thirty monks to travel to south-eastern England to spread the Gospel there. They landed in 597, and were welcomed by the king of Kent, Ethelbert, who became a Christian along with many of his subjects. Augustine went to Arles, in France, where he was consecrated archbishop of the English, and then returned to Canterbury to set up his see. The mission prospered, and he founded two more sees, at London and at Rochester in Kent. Augustine died at Canterbury on May 26, 604 or 605. Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented on the decision by the California Supreme Court upholding the resolution banning same-sex marriage in California: "The shame of it all is that after the citizens of California said no to gay marriage last fall—the people always say no (the record is 30-0 in state ballot initiatives)—homosexual radicals sought to do an end-run around the democratic process and have unelected judges overrule the express will of the people. In response to the National Insitutes of Health’s request for public comment, Msgr. David J. President Barack Obama has settled on a new Supreme Court judge to replace retiring Justice David Souter, who had comprised the 5-4 pro-abortion majority on the high court. Obama selected New York federal appellate Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
