St. Hilary of Poitiers -- Bishop, Doctor of the Church

Hillary was a student of rhetoric and philosophy who became a convert to Christianity. He was later elected bishop of Poitiers and wrote commentaries on the Trinity, The Gospel of Mathew, and the Psalms. He stood up against the persecution of Saint Athanasius by the politically powerful Arians. He devoted his tongue and pen to fighting the Arian heresy and was exiled for his zeal. Hillary died in 368 A.D.

"Impart to us the meaning of the words of Scripture and the light to understand it."

~St. Hilary
