On This Day in Catholic History:

1073 Gregory VII (Hildebrand, ca. 1020–1085; pope, 1073–1085) was consecrated.

1315 According to tradition, Raymond Lully (Ramon Lull, b. 1232), Spanish mystic, scholar and missionary to Muslims, was stoned to death in North Africa.

1963 Italian Cardinal Giovanni Battista Montini (1897–1978) was crowned Pope Paul VI at Vatican City.
