Do You Babelize?

What happens when an English phrase is translated (by computer) back and forth between 5 different languages? The authors of the Systran translation software probably never intended this application of their program and it is not equipped for 10 consecutive translations of the same piece.

The resulting half-English, half-foreign, and totally non sequitur response bears almost no resemblance to the original. Remember the old game of "Telephone"? Something is lost, and sometimes something is gained. Try it for yourself!

Here is just a sample I entered into the babelizer : (I got the idea for using this phrase from Spirit of Vatican 2.)

"Gregorian chant is the opposite of rap."

translates into

"Gregoriano Cantili is opposition of the dry and hard effect."

Hard and dry - what a great description for rap!

Just enter a phrase here and babelize for yourself!
