CATHOLIC BISHOPS TO DETERMINE FATE OF CATHOLIC POLITICIANS WHO SUPPORT ABORTION
Washington D.C. (AP) - Washington Cardinal Theodore McCarrick is leading a task force of bishops this week to deal with Catholic politicians who oppose church teachings on abortion. The Vatican has not set any strict rules on whether they should be given Communion. But an international body of bishops last month declared Catholic politicians have a responsibility to uphold church teachings. Some bishops have said they would deny Communion to Democrats like John Kerry who support abortion rights. McCarrick plans to seek advice on this at meetings with Catholic Democrats and Republicans this week who were recommended by their local bishops.
