The Catholic Roots of St. Louis, "Rome of the West"

Image
A painting of the coronation of St. Louis IX, King of France , hangs in the "Old Cathedral" in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. It is entitled "Louis IX Venerating the Relic of the Crown of Thorns," painted by Charles Coypel in 1751. It was purchased by Bishop Louis DuBourg in 1817 and later hung in a side chapel of what was then the St. Louis Cathedral, which is now the Basilica of St. Louis, King of France, or the "Old Cathedral." In the video, Catherine Szeltner shows us the rich Catholic history of the city known as "The Rome of the West."

Bishop Hermann: Judgement Day

Image
Bishop Hermann Image via St. Louis Catholic Judgment Day is on its way. We cannot stop it. We don’t know when it will come, but just as surely as the sun rises daily, the Son of Man will come when we least expect. Judgment Day is on its way. For many, this coming election may very well be judgment day, for this election will measure us. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells us in 10:32-33: "Everyone who acknowledges Me before others, I will acknowledge before My heavenly Father. But whoever denies Me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father." Judgment Day is on its way. When my time comes, I will be measured by my Savior for the decisions I have made. I will either be acknowledged by Jesus or denied by Him in the presence of our heavenly Father. The question I need to ask myself is this: What kind of witness will I give to Him when I go into the voting booth this election day? The decision I make in the voting booth will reflect my value system. If I value the go...

Not too Bright: PP Holds Truth Truck Hostage in St. Louis

Image
Here's a good one, as reported by Operation Rescue on Saturday: Operation Rescue's Truth Truck, driven by Mark Gietzen, caused a stir the St. Louis Planned Parenthood abortion mill on Saturday, July 19, when he drove onto their parking lot and parked near the front door as abortion-bound women entered the facility. Security guards for PP immediately rushed to close the parking lot's iron gates to prevent the Truth Truck from leaving while they summoned the police.... But this action turned out for the good, allowing the Truth Truck to witness to the women in the parking lot for longer than it would have otherwise. Gietzen was convinced that his actions were completely legal. "They did not have the proper signage to keep me off the lot," he said. Apparently the police agreed. Officers made the PP security guards open the gate and allow the Truth Truck to leave as over 300 pro-lifers cheered.... Via Jill Stanek.
