2008 WORLDWIDE PENTECOST NOVENA PRAYER

Image
Thursday, May 1 - Sunday, May 11 For A Renewed Descent of the Holy Spirit In Our Day “As we give thanks for past blessings, and look to the challenges of the future, let us implore from God the grace of a new Pentecost for the Church in America. May tongues of fire, combining burning love of God and neighbor with zeal for the spread of Christ’s Kingdom, descend on all present.”Pope Benedict XVI, Papal Visit to the United States, April 19, 2008 Our world is in great danger. It is under constant threat from unprecedented acts of terrorism and war, disasters of nature, economic crises, mass hunger, moral decline, attacks on human rights and the sanctity of human life. As people of faith, we know we are engaged in a colossal battle between the Gospel of Life and the “culture of death.” We are deeply concerned, but not without hope. More and more people realize that our world needs conversion. More and more people realize that our efforts alone will not be enough. We need the help of heave...

Woe To Those Who Call Evil Good

Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, Kansas gave a beautiful and inspirational keynote address at the Gospel of Life Conference in Denver earlier this Fall. Stating that he'd rather be a disciple of Jesus Christ than of Pontius Pilate, Archbishop Naumann addressed the life issues squarely in Woe to Those Who Call Evil Good . Here is an excerpt from that talk, but I recommend you read it in its entirety - it is truth and he was unquestionably inspired by the Holy Spirit when he gave this talk. Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to serving the poorest of the poor, said on more than one occasion that the greatest poverty in the world was not on the streets of Calcutta but here in the United States and Western Europe. She would say: “What a terrible poverty that says: I cannot feed one more child. I cannot clothe one more child. I cannot shelter one more child. I cannot care for one more child. I cannot love one more child.” This is the great poverty that has enveloped our nati...

'Bella' receives critical acclaim while literally saving lives

Image
Movies often are judged on their entertainment value, but one particular low-budget film gaining steam in theaters is being judged on something else –- the number of lives it has saved. It's a bold claim, but one that "Bella" -- a pro-life movie that surprised film observers by winning the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival's People's Choice Award –- apparently can support. "It's been amazing," lead actor Eduardo Verastegui told an audience in Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 17. "We've received so many e-mails and letters from young ladies who just days before were scheduled to have an appointment to have an abortion and after they saw 'Bella' they kept their baby." Click here for the full story I thank God for this film and the transformation it has made in the lives of so many. It is truly the Gospel of Life in action.
