Things That Make My Blood Boil

Image
[Cartoon attribution: Chicago Sun-Times, published during the 2004 US Senate campaign in IL] From Jill Stanek's blog: Obama supporters have always denied Obama supports infanticide despite overwhelming evidence such as his votes and floor speeches as state senator against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. There is even audiotape of Obama stating it would be a "burden to the original decision of the woman" to provide emergency care to abortion survivors. That's all Obama supporters can do, really. It would be ridiculous to defend Obama's pro-infanticide stance, so they just deny it ever happened. And thus it was on May 8 that Soros-funded Media Matters tried once again to deny the undeniable. MM was picking apart Rush Limbaugh's May 7 replacement, Mark Davis, word by word and came to this... Dr. Alan Keyes Released From Jail After Witnessing Against Abortion

"I am going back on campus to prayerfully bear witness. Come, join me, let us trespass together so that in our trespasses we might find ourselves fully in obedience to the will of God." ~ Dr. Alan Keyes Dr. Alan Keyes and 20 peaceful pro-lifers were arrested yesterday after they walked onto Notre Dame's campus praying the rosary and pushing baby strollers carrying baby dolls covered in "stage blood" to protest the invitation of Notre Dame to President Obama to deliver the commencement address at this year's graduation. Dr. Keyes intended to spend the weekend in jail. A person from New York, unknown to Dr. Keyes, posted the bail by credit card. Dr. Keyes will be leading peaceful witnesses again on campus this week, and is asking others to come from around the country to join him. For more information see www.StopObamaNotreDame.com . St. Louis Catholics to join Notre Dame Protest

Image
Dozens of St. Louis Catholics are planning to travel to South Bend, Indiana to take part in May 17 protests against the University of Notre Dame’s decision to host President Barack Obama as commencement speaker and to award him an honorary law degree. The protesters from the St. Louis area are being organized by John Ryan, a 56-year-old member of Most Sacred Heart Parish in Eureka, Missouri. An announcement from Ryan says the group aims to confront the "scandal" caused by University of Notre Dame President Fr. John I. Jenkins’ decision "to honor the most pro-abortion President in history." The group also intends to "make amends for the damage this scandal has caused the Church." Describing its motives, the announcement cites President Obama’s decision to overturn the Mexico City Policy and to expand federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research. "The minute I heard about this, I knew I had to find every Catholic I could and be on that campus ...

Copies Are Being Rushed to Rome, Papal Nuncio, USCCB and ND Bishop John D’Arcy Manassas, Va. – Today, April 29, 2009, the first 300,000 names of individuals who signed the petition at NotreDameScandal.com — opposing the University of Notre Dame’s decision to honor President Barack Obama at commencement — are being delivered to Notre Dame president Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., the Board of Trustees and the Board of Fellows as they prepare for scheduled meetings on Friday, May 1, at Notre Dame. As of this morning, more than 344,000 people have signed the petition, but because of the overwhelming numbers it took The Cardinal Newman Society more than 24 hours to prepare the data and print more than 64,000 sheets of paper, double sided, which were then bound in notebooks and sent via FedEx to Father Jenkins and individual members of the Notre Dame Board of Trustees and Board of Fellows. Copies of the petitions are also being rushed by The Cardinal Newman Society, which sponsored the peti...

Breaking: 10 Priests of the Founding Order at Notre Dame Speak out Against Jenkins' Decision

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Ten priests in the Roman Catholic order that helps run the University of Notre Dame want the school to reconsider having President Barack Obama deliver this year's commencement address. Notre Dame's invitation to Obama has drawn outrage from some Catholics because his stances on abortion and stem cell research are at odds with church teaching. Ten members of the Congregation of the Holy Cross signed an open letter published Wednesday in the campus newspaper. They ask Notre Dame's president — the Rev. John Jenkins, also a Holy Cross priest — and the university's board of fellows to reconsider having Obama speak at the May commencement and receive an honorary degree. Via The StarTribune.Com. Here is a copy of that letter in full from The Observer: We write as priests of the Congregation of Holy Cross and as proud graduates of the University of Notre Dame to voice our objection to the University's decision to honor President Barack Obama by inviting ...

Bishop Doran expresses "Dismay and Outrage" with ND Decision

Rockford Bishop Doran : ‘Dismay and Outrage’ at Notre Dame Honor for President Obama The following is the text of the letter provided by Bishop Thomas G. Doran to The Cardinal Newman Society : March 31, 2009 Reverend John I. Jenkins, C.S.C. President University of Notre Dame 400 Main Building Notre Dame, IN 46556 Dear President Jenkins: I wish to express in my own name and on behalf of the Catholic community of this Diocese, my dismay and outrage at your decision to invite the current President of the United States to address the 2009 graduates of the University of Notre Dame and to receive an honorary degree. This decision of your flies in the face of the expressed directive of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in the year 2004, that Catholic institutions not so honor those who profess opposition to the Church’s doctrine on abortion and embryonic stem cell research. I would ask that you rescind this unfortunate ...

Cardinal George: Notre Dame Decision an "Extreme Embarassment"

Image
Speaking as the head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, this weekend Cardinal Francis George of Chicago said that the University of Notre Dame's decision to host and honor President Obama at their commencement ceremony this year was an "extreme embarrassment" to Catholics . " Whatever else is clear, it is clear that Notre Dame didn't understand what it means to be Catholic when they issued this invitation," George told the crowd at a conference Saturday on the Vatican document Dignitatis Personae. The conference was hosted by the Chicago archdiocese's Respect Life office and Office for Evangelization at the Marriott O'Hare hotel. In a video obtained by LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) today, Cardinal George prefaced his remarks by noting that as USCCB president he does not have jurisdiction or authority over other bishops, but nonetheless has "some moral authority, without any kind of jurisdiction or any sort of real authority." "As ...

Holy Cross Superior General Asks Obama to Rethink His Position on Abortion

The head of the Holy Cross religious order that founded the University of Notre Dame has written to U.S. President Barack Obama and asked him to rethink his positions on abortion and other life issues. U.S. Father Hugh W. Cleary, Holy Cross superior general in Rome, said that when Obama receives an honorary degree from the Indiana university and delivers the commencement address in May, he should take to heart the objections of Catholics who have been scandalized by the invitation. Father Cleary asked the president to use the occasion to "give your conscience a fresh opportunity to be formed anew in a holy awe and reverence before human life in every form at every stage -- from conception to natural death." Cardinal DiNardo Criticizes Notre Dame Decision

Image
A fourth American Bishop has come forward to criticize Notre Dame on the decision of the Catholic University to honor President Barack Obama by inviting him to be this year's commencement speaker and awarding him with an honorary doctorate. Daniel Cardinal DiNardo from the Archdiocese of Galveston - Houston had the following comments in regard to the Notre Dame Scandal in the Texas Catholic Herald : "... I want to venture a comment on the recently released statement of the University of Notre Dame; that statement noted that the President has accepted an invitation to give the Commencement Address this year as well as receive an Honorary Law Degree. The news release then outlines the fact that a number of other Presidents have given the Commencement Address at Notre Dame and have thus highlighted, in effect, the university’s importance. I find the invitation very disappointing. Though I can understand the desire by a university to have the prestige of a commencement address by ...
