Washington, DC – As news emerged that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ nomination to Health and Human Services Secretary has been postponed until the end of April, American Life League called on Kansas Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts to reject the nomination. By calling on “Senatorial Courtesy” – the longstanding Senate tradition only confirming nominees if their home-state senators approve – Sens. Brownback and Roberts may be able to reject the nomination and stop Sebelius. "Sen. Brownback and Sen. Roberts have an unparalleled opportunity to keep the most rabidly pro-abortion governor in the nation away from our country’s healthcare," said Shaun Kenney, executive director of American Life League. “ Both of these men have long claimed the title ‘pro-life,’ now is the time to prove it." In the last five days, two pro-abortion governors, Tim Kaine of Virginia (D) and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas (D), signed legislation into law that benefits the pro-life cause. Late last week Governor Sebelius approved a bill that requires women who are considering an abortion to be fully informed about their "choice" through ultrasounds and literature. Then yesterday, Virginia governor Tim Kaine signed a bill that creates "Choose Life" license plates in his state--the proceeds of which will benefit pregnancy resource centers. Not surprisingly, both of these decisions greatly upset pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and NARAL, which have described ultrasound machines as "weapons" and claim pregnancy resource centers "promote extreme views to stop women from exercising their right" to kill their child.
