Rome, Italy, Oct 14, 2013 / 07:01 am (CNA/EWTN News).- A new documentary produced by the Knights of Columbus traces the background of Pope Francis, offering insight into his life and thought through the words of those who knew him best. “This documentary introduces people to Pope Francis in a very accessible way,” said Andrew Walther, one of the documentary’s executive producers. “Most people know something about our Holy Father,” Walther told CNA, “but through his own words and the interviews with those who worked with him in Argentina, as well as with key Catholic figures in the United States, this film will help give viewers an in depth understanding of the pope's thought, life and work.” Entitled “Francis: The Pope from the New World,” the hour-long program will air on the FOX Business Network on Oct. 20, at 5 p.m. Eastern Time. Via CWN : Before his resignation took effect on February 28, Pope Benedict XVI authorized a television broadcast that will display the Shroud of Turin. On Holy Saturday, March 31, Archbishop Cesare Nosiglia will lead a liturgical ceremony that will include a public display of the Shroud. The ceremony will be telecast and made available worldwide. The last broadcast images of the Shroud were carried by the Italian RAI network in 1973. The last public display of the Shroud was in May 2010. Pope Benedict was among the 2 million people who came to venerate the Shroud during that exposition.

WASHINGTON—“Callings,” an hour-long documentary on work as a vocation, will be released by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to NBC-TV stations and affiliates on Sunday, June 14. The program features major league first baseman Mike Sweeney, now of the Seattle Mariners, dancer Francie Huber, Catholic Charities social worker Rita Flynn, and seven others who point out that their work is more a calling than a job. Christopher West, senior fellow of the Theology of the Body Institute, was interviewed last week for an in-depth feature segment on ABC’s Nightline. The interview was filmed on location in North Carolina during one of his conferences and also in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, near the headquarters of the Theology of the Body Institute. The piece will air either tonight (May 7) or tomorrow night (May 8). ABC Nightline airs at 11:35 EST. Check your local listing for more information. On Divine Mercy Sunday (April 19th), CatholicTV will show special programming in honor of God’s Divine Mercy. The programming will include a show explaining the history and significance of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a recitation of the Chaplet, and songs by artist Angelina Davis of Louisiana. Her performance was taped in Poland, where Jesus revealed his message of Divine Mercy to St. Faustina. The special programming will begin at 2:30PM (all times Eastern) with “The Message of Divine Mercy” which is hosted by Dr. Vincent Baratta from Windham, NY. Dr. Baratta was an average physician who wrote a prayer card about the Rosary for his own use. He showed the card to Msgr. Charles Brown who previously worked in the Vatican under Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI. Msgr. Brown suggested that the prayer card be shown to Archbishop Edwin O’Brien.
