This week, I’m joining up with other Catholic bloggers at RAnn’s place for Sunday Snippets where we share our posts from the previous week and answer a weekly question. Question of the Week :  Any nun (sister) stories to tell? My Answer : I attended Catholic schools for twelve years where I was taught by the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame. Our Sisters were formally addressed as "Mother." They were a wonderful community -- so dedicated to their work. I remember my freshman homeroom and religion teacher -- Mother St. Madeline -- who was so full of energy and enthusiasm and loved to do fun things. I should mention that the first year of high school, I attended an all-girls school, which became co-institutional the following year. One day, in homeroom, she decided to have a hairdo contest and asked the class to vote on who had the most improved hairdo in the classroom. The Congregation of Oblate Sisters of Christ Priest was founded in Madrid in 1938. Within this completely contemplative congregation, the Oblates live entirely surrendered to God, in the solitude and silence, in the incessant prayer and austere penance. The Oblate offers her life, hides in her cell, in the cloister, in order to give life to the whole Church, but especially to the priests. The Oblate gives herself for the priests in order for them to be saints. She joins Jesus prayer: I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one. Nuns smell success in fresh batches of snickerdoodles CLEVELAND -- The kitchen inside the convent of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit smells like heaven coated in cinnamon sugar. The nuns are busy this time of year, with the help of a few spry seniors, producing miracles at the rate of 48 to a sheet, 10 racks at a time. With prayer, practiced hands and pounds and pounds of butter, their work yields a bounty that could strengthen their ministry to the elderly for years to come. Behold, a snickerdoodle is born. MORE
