The Spirituality of St. John Neumann
January 5th is the feast of St. John Neumann (1811-1860), a native of Bohemia who immigrated to the United States, where he became a Redemptorist priest and the fourth Bishop of Philadelphia. He founded the first Catholic diocesan school system in the U.S. and a new religious institute — the Third Order of Saint Francis of Glen Riddle. He is the first American bishop to be canonized.
