Despite the crowds at yesterday's Wichita Tea Party, I had the opportunity to speak briefly with my Senator from Kansas, Sam Brownback. At the Tea Party , there were a few pro-lifers with signs protesting Brownback's confirmation of Kathleen Sebelius as HHS Secretary. At the beginning of his talk a few of us yelled out, "No to Sebelius!" (That's not something the mainstream media won't report.) Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has signed a bill ensuring that clinics give women and girls seeking abortions a chance to see ultrasound images before performing the procedure. The legislation was signed Friday and takes effect July 1. It also requires clinics to offer abortion patients a chance to listen to the fetal heartbeat. Sebelius signed the measure as she awaits U.S. Senate confirmation as federal Health and Human Services secretary. Yesterday, the Kansas legislature passed the Woman’s Right to Know and See Act, which requires abortion providers to allow expectant mothers to see their unborn child via ultrasound or listen to their heartbeat, and to provide literature on abortion alternatives. The bill also requires each abortion provider to post a notice that it is illegal to force a woman to have an abortion. The bill is now sitting on Sebelius' desk.
