I found this very interesting post at Adrienne's Catholic Corner : At a Caterpillar Inc. plant in Peoria, Ill., today, President Obama said that his proposed economic stimulus would allow the company's CEO to rehire recently laid-off employees. But the head of the company said he will have to fire more workers before he can rehire anyone who has been let go. Obama has said twice in the past two days that Caterpillar CEO James Owens indicated his company would be able to rehire some of the 20,000 recently laid-off employees. read more and be sure to watch the video there. Here we see Obama pushing his stimlus program, stressing how it's going to create many more jobs, while this is not the reality at all. Angry Voters Flood Capitol with Calls Against Stimulus Switchboard operators at the Capitol say that frustrated voters are jamming phone lines with calls to Senators and Congressmen against Obama's and the Democrats' proposed economic stimulus plan. Some Senators report that calls to their offices about the plan are running in the hundreds per day, up from just a handful last month. Voters are upset both at the cost of the plan, which is at over $900 billion currently, and the recent tax troubles of Obama Administration nominees, which is feeding the perception that there are different sets of rules for the well connected and the ordinary citizen. In a move the Food and Drug Administration denies has anything to do with the new presidency, the federal agency granted permission this week to begin the country's first embryonic stem cell treatments on human subjects. The FDA approved an application from Geron Corporation, based in Menlo Park, Calif., to inject stem cells derived from human embryos into 10 people paralyzed from the chest down by spinal cord injuries. Sen. Sam Brownback has invited Barack Obama to Fort Leavenworth, saying the president-elect should see for himself that Guantanamo Bay detainees shouldn't be moved to Kansas. Brownback, a Kansas Republican, extended the invitation Monday. A day earlier, Obama appeared on ABC News' "This Week" and said closing the detainee operations at Guantanamo Bay was one of his biggest challenges in taking office. Fort Leavenworth's U.S. Disciplinary Barracks has been mentioned as a potential site for moving the detainees, along with a site in California and South Carolina. Brownback and Kansas Republican Rep. Lynn Jenkins have introduced legislation to block spending any federal money to move detainees to Fort Leavenworth. My Comment: I think the best place for the Guantanamo detainees to move would be the White House.
