Vatican to Boston archdiocese: stop gay adoptions

The Boston archdiocese has received instructions to stop arranging adoptions for homosexual couples, the Boston Herald Reports today. Archbishop Sean O'Malley has received a letter from the papal nuncio in Washington, Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, saying that Catholic Charities must discontinue its current practice of helping same-sex couples adopt children.

The Boston arm of Catholic Charities came under fire in October when it was revealed that the office was actively helping homosexual couples to adopt children, despite Church teaching that such adoptions are "gravely immoral" and "would actually mean doing violence to those children."

Father J. Bryan Hehir, the head of Catholic Charities in Boston, explained that the Church agency assisted in homosexual adoptions in order to qualify for state funding that underwrites other adoption services. "If we could design the system ourselves, we would not participate in adoptions to gay couples, but we can't," he said; "We have to balance various goods."

In addition to this luncacy, Catholic Charities has faced a separate set of public protests this week, because the agency is holding a fundraising dinner that will honor Boston Mayor Tom Menino, a proponent of legal abortion and same-sex marriage. After pro-life groups vowed to picket the Catholic Charities fundraiser, Archbishop O'Malley announced that he would not attend the event. But the archbishop stopped short of ordering Catholic Charities to withdraw the honor for Mayor Menino.

Wouldn't it be just slightly more appropriate to have a single parent who raised the child in the Catholic faith adopt the child than to have two homosexuals adopt him? What kind of values or spirituality will the homosexuals be teaching the child and what kind of role models will they be for the child to emulate? Certainly not good Catholic parental role models who can educate the child in the faith. The couple are living in a state of mortal sin. A priest cooperating in this kind of arrangement to obtain state funding? Please, give me a break -- commiting a serious sin to obtain money? There are plenty of parents who are childless who would love to adopt a child, even if that child has some behavioral and/or emotional problems. Wake up and smell the coffee! Have you read your Catholic Catechism or Bible lately? Do you remember the Ten Commandments? Have you been drinking the same water as John Kerry and Ted Kennedy? What happened to living out your Catholic faith and trusting in Divine providence?

Honoring a person who falsely calls himself Catholic and publicly supports homsexuality and abortion ... Am I missing something here? Aren't these still mortal sins according to the Catholic Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Ten Commandments? Did God revise the Ten Commandments?

Catholic Charities in Boston should be renamed "Catholic Crazies". Thank God there are still some real Catholics there who believe in standing up for the faith and are protesting this lunacy. And thank God we have Our Holy Father and the Papal Nuncio to keep the Boston Archdiocese in line.
