WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

Today is the "World Day of Prayer for Vocations." We pray today for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated religious life. Many are called to serve in these important vocations and we need to pray that they will hear God's call and respond to it.

To quote Bishop Jackels of the Diocese of Wichita, "we cannot live fully our Christian lives without the ministry of priests; they are God's precious gift to continue His love and care for us."

We need priests to forgive us our sins in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and restore God's life to our souls. We need priests to be present for us in sickness and to prepare us for death with the Sacrament of Anointing. We need them to lead us in worship at Holy Mass and to proclaim and explain the Good News to us. But most of all, we need priests to feed us with the Bread of Life in the Holy Eucharist. Jesus tells us that unless we eat of the Bread of Life, we cannot have life within us. (John 6:53).

Please join me in praying for vocations today.

Here is a prayer to help you get started. You can find more here.

Prayer For Vocations

Gracious God, we thank you for all your goodness to us, especially for the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. We ask that you grant your Church new workers to spread the good news of salvation among us and in every corner of the world. May we generously support those you have called to serve as lay ministers, sisters, priests, brothers, and deacons. May they reap a new harvest of love in the world by loving and serving in Your name. Amen.
