Is Rudy Giuliani Just Another "Phony Catholic" Politician? (Updated)

I like Catholic League President Bill Donahue's fighting "Irish - American" spirit - his straight forward, outspoken speech when it comes to defending Catholicism. He says what many of us would like to say and would like our Bishops to say and reiterate because so many "Catholics" still don't get it.

Here's what Donahue has to say about Rudi Giuliani : “Catholics who accept the teachings of the Catholic Church on the life issues have every reason to be angry with Rudy Giuliani’s pledge to maintain taxpayer-funded abortions if elected president. His overall position on abortion is incoherent. He says he is now opposed to partial-birth abortion except to save the life of the mother, would appoint ‘strict constructionist’ judges and says he personally ‘hates’ abortion.

“Giuliani has no need to qualify his opposition to partial-birth abortion: the American Medical Association has determined that there is NEVER a medical need for this type of abortion. Moreover, if he appoints the kinds of judges he says he will appoint, it is not likely they will uphold the wholly contrived right to abortion-on-demand. So why not simply say that Roe v. Wade invented a right that nowhere appears in the Constitution? And if he ‘hates’ abortion, what exactly is it that he hates about it? And why does he want to impose on the public the burden of paying for something that is constitutionally suspect and morally repugnant?

First of all, Giuliani doesn't strike me as a man of high morals. A great speaker, yes, someone who can get a job done, yes, but not as someone who has high ethical standards. He isn't even a practicing Catholic because he has already excommunicated himself from the Church by voting in favor of laws supporting abortion.

He says he hates abortion, yet he has a consistent record of voting for abortion. What he says and what he does are contradictory, which makes me mistrust him. And if he would appoint those liberal judges, he might as well join the Demo(n)crats because he's running on their platform. Is there really any difference between his stance on the human life issues and those of Hillary or Obama?

He uses the same old line that all the phony "Catholic" politicians use: "I personally don't believe in abortion, but.. "

Take a look at the partial - birth abortion procedure - I think it should be mandatory for all those in public office to see exactly what abortions look like and listen to the words of the women who have been traumatized physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually by abortion before they even begin to consider voting on abortion legislation. Dropping by an abortion mill unexpectedly and unannounced would give them a better idea of what really goes on in these "human butcher shops".

I suppose the big question is "Do they really care?" "Do they really want to know?"

  1. What constantly amazes me is the number of Catholics who will vote for him, stating national security concerns.
Does America deserve the protection of Almighty God while we kill the innocent?

  2. I am confused with Giuliani's stand on Abortion. He claims that he hates it because it is wrong but he supports it. He says adoption is a better option than abortion. If so, then he should advocate it instead of abortion. He needs to clear this up to avoid confusing his supporters.
