Republican Candidates Respond to Pro-life Issues At Tonight's Debate
After watching tonight's Republican debates, I felt pretty good about most of the candidates. However, I was most concerned about the way they answered the embryonic stem cell research and the abortion (Roe V. Wade) questions. The candidates that I did not feel I could support at this point in time based on the way they have answered the questions tonight are: Senator McCain, Rudy Giuliani, and Governor Romney. All of the above said, "Yes" when questioned about whether or not they approved of embryonic stem cell research. Rudy Giuliani qualified his answer, "Yes, with limitations." I will also say that the way that Romney's response to the question made me wonder whether or not he really understood the question which was repeated to him. Although he replied "Yes" he had a few qualifiers which made it difficult to understand exactly what he meant.
The candidates I felt most comfortable with based upon the way they responded to all of the questions asked were: Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas, Former Governor Jim Gilmore of Virginia, Former Governor Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, and Representative Hunter of California. There were a few issues that I disagreed with Tommy Thompson about - especially when he stated that Terry Schiavo's situation should be left up to the state.
