Romanian Leader Urges Women to Bear More Children

(CWNews.com) - Romania’s President Traian Basescu has appealed to the country’s women to bear more than one child, in order to overcome a national demographic crisis.

In recent years, Romania’s population has decreased from 22 million to just over 20 million. If the trend continues, there will be no more than 17 million Romanians by 2050 and 8 million by 2100, with an aging population straining the nation's economic resources.

Romania has the highest rate of abortion in Europe. A film about illegal abortion in Communist-era Romania won the Palme d’Or prize at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The film was financed by a pro-abortion organization.

    Isn't Romania one of the European countries that sell fetal tissue to the black market cosmetic industry to keep women looking younger and beautiful?

    I don't know for sure, but I do know that Romania is a very poor country and that the number of abortions there exceeds the number of births. Also, there is a flourishing human egg trade in Romania which exploits poor female factory workers. They are paid more than a month's salary to submit to what is called a "safe, easy and painless" medical procedure.

    However, it is anything but safe, easy and painless. The young women's ovaries are hyperstimulated to produce dozens of eggs at a time, which are then harvested. This procedure is forced on the women repeatedly, and they are never told that they can opt out. They are also prohibited from seeking independent medical or legal advice.
    Hearings found that some of these women were so ruthlessly harvested that their personalities were destroyed and they became paralyzed.

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. St. Raymond Nonnatus, Patron of Expectant Mothers, Midwives, and Newborn Babies

The saint of the day for August 31 is St. Raymond Nonnatus. He is the patron of expectant mothers, midwives, obstetricians, infertile couples, and newborn babies. Raymond was born at Portella, Catalonia, Spain in 1204, the son of wealthy parents. He was delivered by cesarean section when his mother died in childbirth. Hence his name non natus (not born). In his childhood, he seemed to find pleasure only in his devotions and serious duties. His father, sensing that Raymond was drawn to religious life, ordered him to manage one of the family farms. Raymond readily obeyed but spent his time with the shepherds and workers, studying and praying until his father abandoned the idea of making his son a worldly success. Raymond later joined the the Order of Our Lady of Mercy or the Mercederians, which was founded by St. Peter Nolasco, who devoted to ransoming Christians captured by the Moors.
