Pat Robertson Supports Guiliani; Brownback endorses McCain??? (Updated)
The world gets more confusing all the time, especially when freaky things like this happen. I have always respected Pat Robertson, but his choice of Guiliani for President has me totally puzzled. I didn't realize that Pat Robertson supported abortion and homosexual unions, which is part of Guiliani's platform.
Even after watching the video in which Pat Robertson explains that his primary reason for supporting Guiliani is "the defense of our population from the blood lust of Islamic terrorists" it still doesn't make sense to me. Certainly that is one reason for supporting a candidate, but if that is his primary reason for backing a candidate, wouldn't Senator John Mc Cain be a more realistic choice with his military background and experience?
Brownback Supports McCain - an embyronic stem cell research backer
The news that Senator Brownback is supporting Senator Mc Cain, referring to him as the "pro-life candidate" is also surprising. While McCain does have a strong pro-life record when it comes to abortion, he supports federal funding of embryonic destructive stem cell research and in fact voted for it three times. In other words, he believes in destroying human life when adult stem cell research, which does not involve the destruction of human life, and has shown great promise is to be tossed aside for a type of research that has zero proven results and will cost the taxpayers billions of dollars.
Why Sam Brownback would support someone with this type of voting record is beyond my comprehension unless he believes that McCain is a stronger pro-life candidate than the others out there or the one candidate with the strongest backing who has the potential to beat the democratic candidate.
I am certainly convinced of one thing here: there is no logic or reason to politics - at least none that is readily apparent - in these situations.
Update: My hunch about the reason why Brownback is endorsing McCain is right. I just received this link from Tito which states the following:
"Brownback said McCain was the most electable among the field of Republicans."
"I know the full set of candidates in the Republican Party primary, it is a good field ... but there's one that stands out, that is the full package, that can beat Hillary Clinton in the fall," he said."
What about Huckabee? He seems like he's doing well in the polls and in the debates.

My reaction is one of contempt.
ReplyDeleteTwo major pro-life leaders are selling out their cause and their constituency.
What's the most important issue in the 2008 election?
I say: life issues and the moral degradation of American culture.
Famous pro-life leader Pat Robertson says: national defense.
Pro-life Senator Sam Brownback says: beating Hillary.
This looks to me like they're trying to retain some future influence.
They've sold out the cause for a pot of message.
How often did Jesus ever compromise with evil? NEVER!
ReplyDeleteI you look at Mike Huckabee's positions, he's the most Catholic of the candidates even though he's not a Catholic. He's got my vote!
