The times they are a changin'

By Guest Blogger Mark Geitzen

I hope and recommend that all proLife Kansas Republicans support Alan Keyes at the Republican Caucus on Saturday morning.

Oh, I know what the delegate count is, and my only hope is that Alan Keyes will have a strong enough showing in Kansas and other states, that he will be chosen as a Vice-Presidential candidate.

Here is why: First, Alan Keyes is one of the most intelligent men in America. He is an original thinker, and one of America’s most dynamic speakers. He is also a true conservative on all issues, and has a particularly good understanding of foreign relations, having had the experience of serving as a UN Ambassador.

My second reason is more pragmatic, and it can be summed up in the words of a 1964 Bob Dylan ballad that goes... "The times they are a-changin'."

There is a good wind blowing across America, and it is coming from deep within the heart of every fair-minded American who says (or at least quietly thinks…):

"Black Americans helped build this country."

"Black Americans certainly do their fair share when it comes to honorable service in the military."

"Black Americans, in fairness deserve one of their own in the Whitehouse, at least once in awhile."

In my opinion, it is this broad-based American sense of fairness that is fueling the Barack Obama campaign, and not the character of the candidate.

If you are paying attention to what is being said in his campaign, it is very obvious that Barack's ideas and abilities are average at best, or are standard Democrat Party boiler plate material. Intellectually, Alan Keyes towers over Barack Obama.

With Alan Keyes in the running, we Republicans have an opportunity to support one of America's intellectual giants, AND to tap into this good wind of racial fairness that is blowing across America.

As VP, Americans would have four years to get to know Alan Keyes, and he would be a great Presidential Candidate in 2012 or 2016.

I am afraid that if we Republicans put two white men on the ticket, that no matter how good those individuals are, that it will be a handicapped ticket.

Like Bob Dylan said; “The times they are a changin'.”

My Comments: To me, this is like deja vu, as I wrote a letter similiar to this, which was published in the Peoria Journal Star in Peoria, IL four years ago.

Here is part of that letter:

Alan Keyes speaks so eloquently and honestly, it's hard to believe he is a candidate for the office of U.S. Senator for Illinois. I can picture a man of such high ideals and strong morals as the dynamic leader of a great nation -- a new world that does not exist here on this earth (which is exactly what we need to combat this current "culture of death.") He is so genuine and authentic that he fails the test of being a typical "politician". To be a politician, one must tell the people what they want to hear -- soothe them with soft-spoken sounds and deceive them with lofty, unkept promises.
