Bishop Aymond: Notre Dame "does not live up to its Catholic identity"

Bishop Aymond, of Austin has released the following statement:

Statement regarding the University of Notre Dame

As was announced recently, the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., is presenting President Barack Obama with an honorary degree and have asked him to give the commencement address.

I, along with many other Catholics, express great disappointment and sadness that a Catholic university would honor someone who is pro-choice and who holds many values contrary to our Catholic belief.

In the midst of such a sad situation, as Catholics we must continue to be pro-life and to proclaim with even greater strength the values of Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

In my opinion, it is very clear that in this case the University of Notre Dame does not live up to its Catholic identity in giving this award and their leadership needs our prayerful support.

  2. Dear Mantra2, first let me say that NObama is NOT or president, he is unwilling to prove he is a naturalized citizen as every president before him AND John McCain and Sarah Palin were required to do. This proves to me he is a fraud. All he need to do is release his papers.

Second, did you ever stop to think that the only people who are for "Choice" are people who survived their mothers pregnancy and are alive? How many of these 50 million plus babies that were aborted just in this country alone, who never had a chance to live were in favor of abortion?

Third, it seems everyone in this country think that if the majority says something is ok, no problem. The Kingdom of Heaven is not like that. God gives us a free choice, we may follow Him or not as we choose. If we choose Him, we will eternity in bliss with Him. If we choose not to, then we "choose" to be controled by the other power, and I don't mean Russia, China or any earthly power, but satin and his fallen angles and eternal damination. Jesus tells us if someone falls, we are to correct them. If we do and they continue, the sin is on them, if we remain silent, the sin is on us. By Fr. Jenkins actions, many people will think abortion os ok, and they may fall into hell. We need to try everything we can to stop this.
