CatholicTV Programs will celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday


On Divine Mercy Sunday (April 19th), CatholicTV will show special programming in honor of God’s Divine Mercy. The programming will include a show explaining the history and significance of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a recitation of the Chaplet, and songs by artist Angelina Davis of Louisiana. Her performance was taped in Poland, where Jesus revealed his message of Divine Mercy to St. Faustina.

The special programming will begin at 2:30PM (all times Eastern) with “The Message of Divine Mercy” which is hosted by Dr. Vincent Baratta from Windham, NY. Dr. Baratta was an average physician who wrote a prayer card about the Rosary for his own use. He showed the card to Msgr. Charles Brown who previously worked in the Vatican under Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI. Msgr. Brown suggested that the prayer card be shown to Archbishop Edwin O’Brien. The Archbishop believed Rosary prayer cards would be very helpful in teaching and evangelizing armed forces personnel. After this, Dr. Baratta helped produced the cards, wrote several books, audio recordings, and even produced videos that helped spread devotion to the Rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

At 3PM on Divine Mercy Sunday, CatholicTV will air a recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet with the Sisters of Divine Mercy, who pray with their arms extended at their sides in order to imitate Christ on the cross. The Divine Mercy devotion message and devotion is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska a religious sister from Poland. The message is a simple one of God’s love and tender mercy for each person.

This special hour of Divine Mercy Programming will end with songs from Angelina. She will sing “Jesus I Trust in You’” & “Fountain of Mercy”, which was shot on location in Poland. Angelina is a 20-year old musician and student. In 2008 Angela received the “Seasonal Album of the Year” Award from the United Catholic Music Video Association (UCVMA).

This programming will air from 2:30PM to 3:30PM (EST) on April 19th on CatholicTV where available and online at www.CatholicTV.com. The live stream is in full-screen and free of charge.

Saint Michael de Sanctis: Patron of Cancer Patients

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Saint Gerard of Brogne: Patron of Abbots

St. Gerard was born to a noble family in Staves, Belgium, in 895. He descended from a royal line of military men and at first felt a share in this call to arms. He trained for the army and, as a page of the count of Namur, he was sent on a special mission to the French court. There, Gerard realized that he was being called to the monastic life. He stayed in France and joined the Benedictines of St. Denis, abandoning his noble birthright and all his worldly possessions. He spent eleven years in France as a monk before becoming a priest. Following his ordination, he left for Belgium in order to found a new abbey on his own estate of Brogne. He was its abbot for twenty-two years and during that period was instrumental in introducing St. Benedict's Rule into numerous houses in Flanders, Lorraine and Champagne.He became known for his engaging sweetness of temper, his strict observance of the Rule of St. Benedict and for the replacement of lukewarm religious practice with true piety.
