Notre Dame Scandal: Fr. Jenkins and His Board Must Go

I am more than a little fed up with the antics of Fr. Jenkins and his board at Notre Dame, especially after reading the latest information at Operation Rescue and Pewsitter.com.

Here's what Operation Rescue has to say:

A new article published May 10 at Pewsitter.com reveals connections between members of the Notre Dame Board of Trustees and President Barack Obama, which may explain much about why a devout Catholic institution would ignore Church teachings and major public outcry to honor the most pro-abortion president in U.S. History.

One example listed in the exposѐ is that of the Chair of the Notre Dame Trustees, Richard Notebaert of the Chicago area. Notebaert’s wife, Peggy, also a luminary in the Notre Dame community, runs the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, which received federal funding earmarked by then Senator Barack Obama. One of Obama’s “key” fundraisers, Frank Clark, served on the museum board at time the funding was received.

The Pewsitter.com article goes on to reveal other such connections. We frankly find the Board’s links to Obama and other leftist causes shocking, considering that these “Trustees” are supposed to be guiding a religious institution whose spiritual foundations are antithetical to such causes.

It could be that Notre Dame President, Fr. John I. Jenkins, doing little more than obeying a directive from the left-leaning Board of Trustees. More focus should be placed on exposing the Trustees that have ties to Obama, who could be paying him back for political favors with the Notre Dame appearance. Read the rest here.

Even if Fr. Jenkins is just following the directive of his board, what he is doing is morally wrong and is against the directive of a higher board -- he is being disobedient to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. Check out the latest video on Fr. Jenkins from RealCatholic TV here, which offers some keen insights.

From Pewsitte.com: In conclusuion, a review of the Board of Trustees at Notre Dame does NOT reveal a particularly strong Catholic identity. There are board members whose actions and associations put them in a position directly at odds with Church teaching and in line with the Obama administration. At the Notre Dame board we see a group of well-connected well-heeled individuals from all sectors of society, and at the most prominent levels. Taking a stand against inviting the President of the United States would likely jeopardize membership in the elite club where they travel.

What can we do in the meantime? Remove Notre Dame from the "Catholic Directory". Until they clean up their act, they don't deserve to be called Catholic.

Contact Most Rev. John D'Arcy, the local bishop, and ask him to remove Notre Dame from the Official Catholic Directory: 260-422-4611 and sign the petition here to have Notre Dame removed from the Catholic Directory.

  1. I believe that first we clean up Notre Dame, since that is in the forefront, then we continue right down the line and clean up all Catholic Universities.

The current white house occupant is trying his best to divide all Catholics, since many do not know their faith very well, and thereby maintain his power. From what I see in the polls, his numbers are starting to slip badly.

  2. I completely agree. Time to clean up the board and Father Jenkins. An overhaul of the entire board would be prudent and wise. We've compromised our position one to many times. We need to stand up for what we believe in and proclaim the Word of God boldly and charitably.
