Beginning of the Month Daybook ~ June 1, 2009
I have decided to go with the format that my friend, Sarah, at Just Another Day of Catholic Pondering has been using, as it is short and concise, yet offers the opportunity for creativity.
Outside my Window
The sun is shining, the trees, bushes, and lawn are all green, and it's a breezy warm day. Today it will be getting up into the 90's again, but I am sitting here in my comfortable air-conditioned home, in my black leather task chair, ready to meet the challenges of another day.
Rambling Thoughts
I'm thinking of all that is ahead this week - the dinner for the seminarians, priests, and sisters of the diocese at the KC hall, my dental appointment, the book proposal, book reviews I need to do, and housework to get done (which, unfortunately, is usually last on my list).
I'm also thinking about the spiritual reading and the quiet time I need to spend with the Lord in prayer, at daily Mass, and during Eucharistic Adoration. I bought a nice mirror at a garage sale this past weekend that has inscribed on the top and the bottom, "One day at a time", which is a great reminder for me. Sometimes I have tendency to get overwhelmed by all the activity going on in my life. What is essential to me is to start my day out with prayer -- a morning praise song followed by the Morning Prayer, the Morning Offering, and intercessions for all those on my prayer list. This bit of quiet time at the beginning of the day is essential for my mental, physical, and spiritual health.

In Thanksgiving
I'm thanking God for: the beautiful flower garden and vegetable garden we have this year as well as the nice weather here. I am also especially thankful that my seven- year- old cat Callie is getting better, as she had been very ill. You can read her "miracle" story here at Prayers for our Pets, which is one of my friend Esther's many blogs.
Nose Inserted
I am reading many different books right now. Here are the titles of a few: Sexual Wisdom for Catholic Adolescents, Escape Adulthood, and Devotion to Our Lady by Fr. Manelli, FI, STD (not to be confused with True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis de Montfort, which I have read a few times.) I'm also reading a number of books on the saints.
Folded Hands, Bowed Head
I am praying for three special intentions that are close to my heart. I'm continuing my daily novena to St. Joseph, my daily prayers for the intercession of St. Jude and St. Anthony in my prayer requests, as well. I pray my daily Consecration prayer to the Blessed Mother immediately after Holy Communion, followed by special prayers to St. Jude and Our Lady of Guadalupe. At night, I pray a Litany to the saints with my husband, which consists of all the saints who are dearest to me.
In My Ears
I am hearing only the hum of the air conditioning now. The dryer beeped a minute ago, so I need to check on that soon.
Around the House
It's very quiet right now -- the cats are sleeping.
My Favorite Thing
Spending time with my husband -- my best friend.
For the rest of the week
I mentioned a few things above, but I forgot to mention that I'll be going to huge garage sale at a local parish later in the week. I can hardly wait to go -- they have wonderful bargains!

I love these flowers that are in many different areas in our yard.
Jean, I'm so flattered, and enormously, um, impressed (and maybe just a teensy weensy envious) by all of your reading! Wow!
ReplyDeleteAnd your spiritual maturity is something I could use around me. Could you come over for coffee sometime soon? (distance notwithstanding...) :)
Those lilies are gorgeous.
