DESPITE ATTACKS, A.L.L. CALLS ON CATHOLIC ORGANIZATIONS TO CONDEMN ‘OBAMACARE’

Washington, DC (03 August 2009) – American Life League president Judie Brown called on three of the top Catholic charitable organizations to condemn the Obama healthcare plan in the wake of an emerging scandal.

Catholic Charities USA, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and the Catholic Health Association are urging their members to support “healthcare reform now,” i.e. current legislation that includes tax-subsidized abortion and rationed care for the sick and elderly.

ALL was alerted to the scandal when supporters passed along an action alert issued jointly by Catholic Charities and the De Paul Society, in which they tell members and supporters,

[W]e must maintain momentum for health care reform efforts with calls and emails supporting health care reform immediately. The groups that do not support health reform have been blanketing House members in opposition to any reform. Your members of Congress need to hear from you that you support health care reform, and that the system needs to be reformed now.

The Catholic Health Association produced a video which begins with a clip of President Obama, the most pro-abortion president in history, rallying Congress to support his healthcare plan. The De Paul Society inserted the video in its web site.

After American Life League issued a statement condemning this move, Catholic Charities USA described “online media reports” as “inaccurate,” ”disingenuous” and “politically motivated.”

“We reported, verbatim, the statements these organizations sent their members,” Brown responded. “These groups are apparently attempting to work out a backroom deal with the Obama administration. Their primary concern is universal health care, while the preborn and the elderly are left behind as collateral damage. As institutions rooted in Catholic social teaching, these groups should be at the forefront of the fight against the injustice of rationed care for the poorest of the poor, of tax-subsidized abortion and contraception, and of disregard for the health of the sick and elderly.”

    Another "catholic" organization forgetting it is Catholic! 3 more charities I WILL NOT SUPPORT!

Saint Michael de Sanctis: Patron of Cancer Patients

Today is the feast of Saint Michael de Sanctis, also known as St. Michael of the Saints, a Spanish Discalced Trinitarian priest, the patron of cancer patients. Michael Argemir was born on September 29, 1591 at Vic, Catalonia, Spain. At age 6, he told his parents that he planned to become a monk and began modeling his life after Saint Francis of Assisi. Michael’s parents died when he was about ten years old. He then served as an apprentice with a local merchant. During this apprenticeship, he continued his fervent devotion to the Lord, especially to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Saint Gerard of Brogne: Patron of Abbots

St. Gerard was born to a noble family in Staves, Belgium, in 895. He descended from a royal line of military men and at first felt a share in this call to arms. He trained for the army and, as a page of the count of Namur, he was sent on a special mission to the French court. There, Gerard realized that he was being called to the monastic life. He stayed in France and joined the Benedictines of St. Denis, abandoning his noble birthright and all his worldly possessions. He spent eleven years in France as a monk before becoming a priest. Following his ordination, he left for Belgium in order to found a new abbey on his own estate of Brogne. He was its abbot for twenty-two years and during that period was instrumental in introducing St. Benedict's Rule into numerous houses in Flanders, Lorraine and Champagne.He became known for his engaging sweetness of temper, his strict observance of the Rule of St. Benedict and for the replacement of lukewarm religious practice with true piety.
