Christmas tree arrives at the Vatican

December 6, 2012. (Romereports.com)  The Christmas tree that will adorn St. Peter's Square arrived Thursday morning. The white spruce giant, measuring nearly 80 feet tall, comes from a forest in southern Italy.

The tree will take its place next to the Vatican's large Nativity scene in the Square. The illumination ceremony for the tree will take place on December 14.

Once the Holidays end, the wood from the spruce will be donated to several groups that manufacture toys for children in need.
