White Smoke! A new Pope has been elected!

March 13, 2013. (Romereports.com) The famous 'Habemus Papam' will be heard around the world in just a few moments. The white smoke means that a cardinal received at least two thirds of the vote, meaning 77 ballots.

The so called 'fumata' began to emerge at around 19.06 Rome time, lasting about seven minutes.

Now that a Pope has been elected, the Pontiff is being greeted by cardinals in the Sistine Chapel. The Pope will pray for a few moments in silence in the Pauline Chapel, before the Blessed Sacrament.

Thousands of people have gathered in St. Peter's Square to witness history and to greet the Successor of St. Peter.
