Saint of the Day: St. Bridget of Sweden -- Biography, Promises, Prayers, and Revelations

Image
St. Bridget of Sweden, Widow, Third Order Franciscan (1303 – 1373) St. Bridget is known for her astonishing revelations documented carefully by her confessors, filling several volumes. Their accounts of her visions of biblical scenes, especially the nativity and the crucifixion, have greatly inspired imagery in Christian art and her devotions have inspired popular piety. It was, however, for her practical works of charity, that she was canonized, and not for her private revelations – which had some very harsh things to say about popes. Bridget was born in Finista in Sweden. From childhood, the Lord granted her special graces, visions and an extraordinary understanding of divine mysteries. At age seven, she had a vision of the crucified Jesus in all the suffering and sorrow of his Passion, which enkindled within her a deep devotion for our Savior. The daughter of a provincial governor and judge, at age 13, Bridget married Ulf Gudmarsson, a prince, who was then eighteen; they lived happ...

Pray for Repentance: Abortion Workers List Released

Image
Operation Rescue has released the most up-to-date list of abortion clinic workers employed by George R. Tiller at his late-term abortion mill, Women's Health Care Services, in Wichita, Kansas. The list includes twenty-two people, including three out-of-state abortionists who travel to Kansas to do abortions, including late-term procedures that are illegal in their home states. "We are releasing this list of abortion workers in order to expose them to the community, and to elicit prayers for their repentance," said Operation Rescue Senior Policy Advisor Cheryl Sullenger. "As Christians, we are concerned about them as people, and understand that sometimes it takes 'tough love' to help someone see the destructive path they are taking, so that they can make the changes necessary to have a better life," Sullenger said. "Most people who quit the abortion industry tell us that they are relieved to be out of that business, and say that leaving improved thei...

Cardinal Rigali Defends conscience protections for pro-life health workers

Washington DC, Jul 22, 2008 / 04:28 am ( CNA ).- Cardinal Justin Rigali has written a letter to all members of the U.S. Congress defending conscience protections for pro-life health care workers. According to the cardinal, due to a lack of executive action some institutions may be violating conscience protection laws “without even knowing it.” Cardinal Rigali, who is Archbishop of Philadelphia and Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee for Pro-Life Activities, wrote the July 18 letter in response to a New York Times article about a draft proposal requiring that any program run or funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) must certify that it will not refuse to hire nurses and other healthcare workers who object to abortion and abortifacient contraceptives. News of the proposal prompted criticism from abortion rights supporters. On Friday Sen. Hillary Clinton said the draft was a "gratuitous, unnecessary insult" to women. MORE We ...

2008 World Youth Day Brings Together Largest Crowd in Australian History

SYDNEY, July 22, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI's weeklong trip to Sydney Australia for the 2008 World Youth Day ended spectacularly on Sunday with a mass attended by some 400,000 pilgrims at Randwick Racecourse and Centennial Park, making it the largest gathering in Australian history. Similar numbers of pilgrims, both international and local, attended many of the central events throughout the week. It was estimated that in excess of half a million pilgrims and locals came out to welcome Benedict XVI on Thursday 17 July for his official arrival on boat-a-cade and motorcade at Barangaroo. The final tally reveals that 110,000 international pilgrims, representing 170 countries, converged on Sydney for the global Catholic youth event. Another 113,000 local pilgrims officially took part in WYD08. The record for World Youth Day attendance, however, is still held by the Philippines, where, in 1995, an estimated 4,000,000 people attended the concluding Mass. WYD08 Coordinator...

Little Tin god, Obama

Barack Obama is a fabrication. A media creation, 'selected' by the DNC in 2004. With access to millions of dollars from political money bundlers such as George Soros (MoveOn.org) as well long time connections to known "political fixers" such as Tony Rezko, Obama now has limitless funds to launch a media blitz unlike any other in history. The purpose of this video is to bring attention to the fact that Obama is indebted to very, powerful people with anti-American agendas. There is no need to worry about the Lobbyist and PAC money he has received- we should all be more concerned with the money being funneled to him by those who openly wish America harm. Song (Little Tin God)- Don Henley A new age is dawning- on fewer than expected Business as usual - thats how the headline read Some shaky modern saviors have now been resurrected- in all this excitement - you may have been misled People want a miracle - they say oh Lord, cant you see us? Were tryin to make a livin down h...

Saint of the Day: St. Mary Magdalene

Image
Mary Magdalene is one of several women named Mary who appear in the four canonical Christian gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. She is said in the Gospels to have been relieved of seven demons, to have supported Jesus' ministry financially, and to have witnessed the crucifixion and resurrection. The feast of St. Mary Magdalene is considered one of the most mystical of feasts, and it is said that of all the songs of the saints, that of Mary Magdalene is the sweetest and strongest because her love was so great. That love was praised by Jesus Himself who said that because much was forgiven her, she loved much. Where she is buried, no one knows. Legend has her dying in Provence, France, in a cavern where she spent her last days, and her body resting in the chapel of St. Maximin in the Maritime Alps. Another has her buried in Ephesus where she went with St. John after the Resurrection. This latter view is more likely, and St. Willibald, the English pilgrim to the Holy Land in the e...

A Few Words to Spammers

Below are some examples of subject headings I have received in my email and how I would like to respond to them: Your car warranty is about ready to expire. (My car is 16 years young with only 100,000 miles on it!) Obama is your man. (I'm a conservative pro-lifer who considers Ron Paul a liberal. I carry around a bar of soap and when I hear the "O" word you had better wash out your mouth with it, buddy! Step back, Jack, I'm also a rifle toting woman.) I have a photo of you naked. (What do you plan to do -- scare people with it? Even my spouse hasn't seen me naked with the night lite on!) Do you want to meet someone new and exciting? (I already have -- I picked her up at the animal shelter yesterday.) Body wrap: lose 6-20 inches in one hour. (Will I get to be a candidate for "What Not to Wear" when I put on my clothes that are four sizes too big afterwards?) Get that great new Hillary smile. (Oooh, I can't wait -- then I'll look just like the Jok...

Not too Bright: PP Holds Truth Truck Hostage in St. Louis

Image
Here's a good one, as reported by Operation Rescue on Saturday: Operation Rescue's Truth Truck, driven by Mark Gietzen, caused a stir the St. Louis Planned Parenthood abortion mill on Saturday, July 19, when he drove onto their parking lot and parked near the front door as abortion-bound women entered the facility. Security guards for PP immediately rushed to close the parking lot's iron gates to prevent the Truth Truck from leaving while they summoned the police.... But this action turned out for the good, allowing the Truth Truck to witness to the women in the parking lot for longer than it would have otherwise. Gietzen was convinced that his actions were completely legal. "They did not have the proper signage to keep me off the lot," he said. Apparently the police agreed. Officers made the PP security guards open the gate and allow the Truth Truck to leave as over 300 pro-lifers cheered.... Via Jill Stanek.
