Late - Term Abortionist George Tiller's Governor: Kathleen Sebelius
Who is this "Roman Catholic" Governor that caters to every whim of late-term abortionist George Tiller?
By Jean M. Heimann
Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius is a staunch supporter of easy abortion. Through her years in the State Legislature and into the Governor's Office, Sebelius has fought hard against any restrictions on abortion. Instead, she has been quoted as saying, "I think for me and a lot of other people there are certain inalienable rights established for a person, but those are not applied in utero." (The Wichita Eagle, October 29, 1989.) She has also said, “My Catholic faith teaches me that life is sacred. Personally, I believe abortion is wrong.” (Topeka Capitol Journal,
Wednesday, May 24, 2006.)
However, as Governor, Sebelius has twice vetoed regulations for the abortion industry which would have established standards and inspection of Kansas abortion facilities.
Sebelius has accepted blood money from late-term abortionist George Tiller. Over the years, Tiller has given over $38,000 to her campaigns and political causes. Sebelius can easily be called "The best politician that blood money can buy!"
Biographical Background
Kathleen Sebelius was born on May 15, 1948 and raised in a Roman Catholic family in Cincinatti, Ohio. She attended the Summit Country Day School, a Roman Catholic secondary school, and Trinity Washington University, a Roman Catholic university in Washington D.C. She later earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Kansas.
Sebelius moved to Kansas at age 26, where she served four terms (1987-1995) in the Kansas House of Representatives and two terms (1995-2003) as the state's elected Insurance Commissioner.
Sebelius is the daughter of former Ohio governor John J. Gilligan and thus they became the first father/daughter governor pair in the United States after her election. Gilligan graduated from St. Xavier High School, the University of Notre Dame in 1943 and the University of Cincinatti in 1947. Gilligan taught Literature at Xavier University in Cincinatti after serving in the Navy in World War II. He has also taught at Notre Dame University.
Her husband Gary Sebelius is a federal magistrate judge and the son of former U.S. Representative Keith Sebelius. They have two sons.
How can she be both Catholic and pro-death?
How is it that someone from such a strong Catholic educational and family background can be so determined to kill babies in their mother's wombs?
Here is the information that I have been able to gather about Sebelius. In September, she spoke at the Kansans for Faithful Citizenship conference. A correspondent who attended that conference relayed the following information to Curmudgeon's Cave .
Then she went onto a biographical reverie which began with a dig on the traditional Latin Mass. She said she was raised in the Catholic Church where, as a child, she watched Mass with the priest saying his prayers in Latin, with his back to the congregation. She said that way of doing things made religion an individual thing; it "wasn't very inclusive."
She also accused her mother of using daily Mass simply as quiet time--of not really praying. She then made a praising passing reference to John XXIII for setting changes in motion. She said then that for her generation, it was standard for politicians to keep their individual religious beliefs quiet, but it was important these days to share them and try to apply them in public life.
After going on for a time about what constituted virtue and saying that "actions do speak louder than words" (which seemed to be the only remotely Catholic thing she said--contra the Protestant notion of sola fide), she said that ignoring schools and children's needs and voting against health care access was not virtuous. She called for moral leadership in the distribution of resources and repeated the "common good" mantra.
Then she jumped in and quoted the more convenient parts of USCCB statements, including something that went like "How can we, all of us, especially the weak and vulnerable, be better off in years ahead?" (That doesn't really sound like a Catholic statement, but it does sound like a USCCB statement, doesn't it?)
Sebelius then went back into her biography, and talked about how she had to do volunteer work in the summers, rather than get a paying job. She also talked about being educated by the Sisters of Notre Dame, who (instead of teaching her the Fifth Commandment, I guess) taught her and her classmates that girls could do anything, and that in so doing they created a group of "accidental feminists."
And then she got into her abortion stance. She said that there was no question she couldn't focus on the abortion issue, and that "My Catholic faith teaches me life is sacred," but that she simply disagreed on tactics: "criminalizing women and their doctors" wasn't the way to fight abortion--it should be fought by reducing and eliminating the causes that lead to abortion.
She then had the audacity to take credit for the reduced number of abortions in the last few years, and she argued that a lower abortion rate can only come about by supporting her litany of liberal (er, "progressive") causes. It was more productive to "talk about a culture of life," she said, and she looked forward to a day when abortion was rare or non-existent.
Then without taking on Archbishop Naumann [of the Diocese of Kansas City, KS] directly (and...this is a shocker...without personally thanking George Tiller for his financial support), she moved on to talk about protecting natural resources and other things, with the old liberal Catholic line. (You can read the entire post here.)
I have also learned from another source that Sebelius does not attend the Catholic Church but attends to a Protestant church and she is not even enrolled in a Catholic parish.
Sebelius is certainly talking like a politician here - out of both sides of her mouth. Evasiveness and double-talk seem to be at the top of the list of the most important "virtues" for a politician.
Perhaps Kathleen Sebelius has some bitter and conflicting feelings toward the Church. She was around when the confusion surrounding Vatican II occurred - when certain laity and clergy began self-interpreting and dangerously misinterpreting the documents according to their own perceptions and desires and the craziness of the secular world began adversely effecting the Church. But why has she remained in that world ? (That was forty plus years ago!) Her mindset is totally out of sync with the Church, yet she insists that she is Catholic. She doesn't even belong to a parish, but attends a Protestant Church (Tiller's?) She insists that she has Catholic beliefs, but accepts blood money from an abortionist. Something is terribly wrong with this picture! In the meantime, let's continue to pray for the conversion of Sebelius (that the Holy Spirit will bring her Baptismal vows into total completion) and definitely vote her out of office on election day.

Governor Sebelius was obviously Baptized Catholic. We should therefore pray to the Holy Spirit that she is able to bring her Baptismal vows into total completion. Let's all love her into the kingdom of God!
ReplyDeleteWell said. It is painful to see this woman in action, but like Norma McCorvey says in Won By Love, it was "love" that brought her back Home. God commands us to love the sinner, but hate the sin.
ReplyDeleteI pray that it happens soon - very soon - for the sake of the babies who are dying as a result of her actions.
God bless you,
Jean
Jean,
ReplyDeleteWe've got one of these right to murder heretic governors right here in New Mexico -- Bill Richardson. Ours is so hell-bent on death and human experimentation that he wants to usurp NM tax dollars to build a human experimentation laboratory (also known as embryonic stem cell research).
Kathleen did say something right -- the Church should teach more forcefully to eliminate the sins that lead to abortion, namely fornication and artificial contraception. However, she is wrong when she says we shouldn't criminalize abortion, because abortion is murder of the innocent.
Hang in there. Maybe these heretics will repent; or maybe they won't. Either way, they'll glorify God -- either by accepting his infinite mercy or by being subject to his infinite justice.
God Bless,
Jeff
