Kansans for Life initiates Grand Jury Petition to investigate possible illegal abortions of viable babies performed in Wichita
Wichita, KS, Thursday, August 9, 2007
Remarks attributable to David Gittrich, State Development Director, Kansans for Life:
Today, we are initiating an effort to convene a Grand Jury to investigate suspected law-breaking at the Wichita abortion facilities of George Tiller.
Abortions of viable unborn babies are supposed to be illegal in Kansas except in the rarest of circumstances, yet we've averaged 300 a year since the 1998 ban against them went into effect! The abortion ban is not deficient-but those charged with enforcing it are shirking their responsibilities.
We believe that the Grand Jury must tackle what law enforcement in Kansas won’t touch:
► late term abortions performed by Tiller in defiance of the medical criteria required for exemptions
► missing information on KDHE abortion reports as to reasons and basis for medical decisions
► bogus “rubber-stamp” physician referrals not only in 2003 but also from 2004 - 2007
► laxity by the Healing Arts Board in punishing unprofessional conduct by Tiller and others

It is too bad that we have to move to the Grand Jury to enforce the law in Kansas, but Tiller seems to have most of the people in power here "bought and paid for".
