I'm Contributing to a New Blog: Catholic Media Review

In response to the recent outrage about the reviews of Harry Forbes of the USCCB Office of Film and Broadcasting, three Catholic bloggers (Leticia at causa nostrae laetitiae and Cause of Our Joy , Julie at Happy Catholic, Christine at The World IMHO) and I have formed a group blog called Catholic Media Review, on which we will post film reviews, and possibly, in the near future, TV show reviews. I am thrilled to be a part of this group of talented writers.

The blog was Leticia's idea, but I think each one of us was shocked and appalled by the fact that Harry Forbes, the USCCB movie reviewer, gave positive reviews to Golden Compass and Brokeback Mountain and wanted to put our gifts to use to make a difference in our culture.

We will do our best to examine each film in the light of Catholic teaching and to warn parents about films that will present a danger to our youth. We also want to encourage people to see those films which we believe will have a positive impact on our society. Some of the outstanding films that I personally have seen include: The Passion of the Christ, Amazing Grace, Into Great Silence, and Bella. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we as Catholic Christians could make an major impact on the type of films that come out? We have this power simply by purchasing tickets to those films that are of excellent quality. You can count on us to keep you informed.

Stop by for a Catholic Media Review for a visit - there are some exciting reviews up already. Some of the reviews already posted include: National Treasure, Juno, I Am Legend, Bella, Enchanted, The Water House - Legend of the Deep.

See you over at Catholic Media Review.

  1. I was surprised to find that the Catholic Bishops didn't do anything until the Bloggers called it to their attention. Then Mr. Forbes came up with several lame excuses. Can we no longer trust the Catholic Bishops to do what is right?
