Sign Petition to Senator Durbin
No religious test has ever been imposed on a judicial nominee in the United States. Article VI of the U.S. Constitution prohibits such a thing. It states that "...no religious test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." Yet, in your recent media appearances you have indicated that the religious faith of a judicial nominee is fair game for questioning. Further, you seem to be indicating that a pro-life stance would 'disqualify' a nominee for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court. I respectfully request that you discontinue this unconstitutional line of inquiry. The confirmation hearings for Judge John Roberts must be fair and without the taint of religious bigotry.
