American Girl dolls to protest company

Pro-life protesters, including some American Girl dolls, are scheduled to picket the American Girl Place superstore in New York City tomorrow to protest the company's association with a group that promotes abortion rights and lesbianism.

The Pro-Life Action League last month announced a boycott of American Girl, decrying its support of Girls Inc. The group is now sponsoring the NYC protest.

In August, American Girl launched the "I Can" campaign with Girls Inc., urging girls to take a pledge and purchase a special bracelet.

With every purchase of the "I Can" band, 70 cents is given to Girls Inc. in addition to American Girl's contribution of $50,000.

On its website, Girls Inc. says it supports a girl's right to abort an unwanted baby and promotion of contraceptives for girls.
The group also
offers resources encouraging lesbian and bisexual lifestyles.

Tomorrow's picket, scheduled for 10 a.m. outside the company's store on Fifth Avenue will include parents and their daughters, the Pro-Life Action League says.

"December is the busiest shopping season of the year," said the group's executive director, Ann Scheidler, in a statement. "Our picket will reach thousands of shoppers on New York's Fifth Avenue with the unfortunate news that American Girl is funding Girls Inc., a group that strongly advocates abortion."

The organization says the protest will include pro-life girls holding signs, many of whom will also hold popular American Girl dolls – such as Samantha, Kit and Molly – who will be hoisting their own miniature picket signs.

The American Family Association also has initiated a campaign to warn parents about American Girls' connection to Girls Inc.

  1. Well so much for American Girl's attempt to downplay their involvment with Girls Inc.

My daughter has everyone of those American Girl books. Plus several years worth of magazine subscriptions. If I had known before hand how evil they are, I never would have got a single one.

  3. Rhonda,

If I were you, I would make protest signs for all the girls & mothers you can gather up and have a bonfire party with all those magazines. Then, take a photo and send it to the company, telling them that you and everyone you know are boycotting American Girl because they are involved with Girls, Inc. and that you are shocked and appalled by their involvement with this no-class, no morals, scum of the earth group -- you thought they were above that. When it begins to effect their pocketbooks, they'll change their tune.
