Demos and Abortion: The Same Old Stuff, New Lies

Translated, that means contraceptive coverage, which translates to mean abortion coverage.

Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Harry Reid, D-Nev., tore into a Republican health care bill Wednesday for its lack of support for what they called "abortion-reduction efforts"their new catchphrase for contraceptive coverage.

With all the traditional Democratic talking points available — coverage for the poor and elderly for example — the health-care bill sponsor, Sen. Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., said it was strange to hear Clinton and Reid choose "abortion-reduction efforts" as their point of attack.

Enzi's spokesman, Craig Orfield, said it was simply politics.

"It's a reason to move aside the Republican approach," he said, "and advance their agenda."

Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, called the phrase "abortion-reduction efforts" dishonest.

"States that have spent more money on contraceptive programs," she said, "are also the same states that have the highest abortion rates."

David Christensen, director of government relations at the Family Research Council, said the curious phrasing is necessary, because Democrats recognize their pro-abortion platform is anathema to most voters.

"Of course," he said, "if they are wanting to reduce abortion it would be great for Senator Reid and Senator Clinton to support the parental-notification bill in the Senate, the Child Custody Protection Act."

  1. The left has this idea that the goal is abortion reduction. Of course that's good, but what they don't acknowledge is that the goal is FETAL EQUALITY. The pro-aborts want to move more towards the culture of life. When do we see them give more rights and acknowledgment of unborn children?
